Poch continues to build a squad and momentum, with of course a few obvious set-backs that he'll have to eliminate, I'm pretty sure that as he uses a form of black boxing thinking in his methods that he is capable of building a winning side...

However, on the minus side he'll have to accept that his job is going to be much much harder than his predecessors and that means that (if approached) by a club with money he'd probably have to say 'yes' to them; if Lewis and Levy can't soon announce the new investor/shareholders group I'm convinced we've been looking for then whilst we can still finance the new stadium it will mean a lack of player spending that will make our previous 'apparent' meanness in the market look like a spending spree..

The obvious answer is to do a deal with one of the half a dozen Chinese consortium's that are looking at UK investment sports opportunities (I know directly of two, but am told there are more) but the issue may well be the Chinese groups reluctance to be a junior partner, it's not the style of the way of Chinese money to accept a passive role, whereas a US or Canadian investor(s) - and these are real possibilities, would probably be a better cultural fit.

So, that's a long way of saying that Pleat (ever the faithful minion of Levy) can say these things easily as his career has long since ended, to an ambitious coach, it's a huge, perhaps career defining commitment to make and I'm unconvinced he'll do what most of us would want him to do..

Hope you're wrong Ex. Not saying he's irreplaceable but I've not seen a manager foster such commitment and motivation amongst a Spurs team in my lifetime. I feel if Poch leaves that may well be undone and our top players will be more open to a move. I don't, for example, understand how we have kept Lloris here and happy into his 30s.

Even when we were, according to some, playing better football under HR I don't feel like the team spirit was ever as good or the players as committed.

Poch continues to break long standing club records despite being apparently 'clueless'. Imagine what he could achieve if he develops his weaknesses and continues to improve the team.

As for the spending. My hope is that the fringe player recycling we've been doing of late can strike gold next time round with an attacking player to rival the acquisition of Wanyama defensively.

If we for example sold Davies, Sissoko, N'koudou, N'Jie and Janssen + the money for Bentaleb and brought in Tielemans, a better striker, Sessegnon and... Ntep (gotta keep swapping out the Nsomethings) we'd be a far better side. I obviously want us to go beyond that and spend more than we bring in but worst case scenario you'd hope we'd at least have a zero net spend.

The answer for Lloris is actually pretty simple, he's well paid here and he's only a hop skip and a jump from his extended family in France, his wife, who is an exceptionally smart individual (unusual for a WAG) has her business based in London:

with their child in School and doing well, he's contented - it would probably take a huge offer to get him even thinking of giving up what looks like a very settled happy home life.

As for the rest, Poch and the coaches approach to using black box thinking/ continuous improvement is a challenge when your working to a fixed budget, but then that's why I believe (know) that the whole scouting senior level has gone through a cleansing ...

Poch mentioned we were after a DOF earlier in the season, any news on that EX?

I suspect until we know exactly what the new scouting structure is i.e. is Mitchell and Boomfield being replaced with one or two people, or are we now going to continue with the new structure of Hitchen just reporting to Levy, Poch and Mcdermott?

If we are, then I suspect we may not continue our hunt for a DOF, but as Levy has his hands more than full with the stadium project, I suspect we will, but not until the season has actually ended.

But my money would be on it being a European, probably from Spain, but having said that the smart money is still on Walter Sabatini.

so your money isn't the smart money? :54:

I get the settled family life argument but there's not many footballers that don't up sticks when a bigger club comes calling just to keep their mrs and little one happy. Seem to remember reading Hugo's family had a bit of cash growing up and he had a decent education so maybe he's happy with his very well off middle class lifestyle rather than pursuing a rags to riches story like some.

Not when it comes to Dof / Levy = I've never agreed with any of his DoF appointments, especially that utter friggin idiot Baldini, so second guessing who Levy will choose means I can't be the smart money!

His wife has a couple of degrees one law I seem to recall) she's created and started a small growing exclusive business in London, they have a magnificent home, happy family etc - everything from the outside looks like all you'd want from a good happy life, so maybe the idea of even more/bigger bucks isn't enough to risk all that by upping sticks again?

Of course that happy outlook might well be challenged again if the club that comes knocking is bigger and offering obscene amounts of cash..

Levy actually stated in the NBC documentary that there would e a medium to long term boost for the club but repaying the financing will constrain spending on player salaries in the nearer future.

Levy actually stated in the NBC documentary that there would e a medium to long term boost for the club but repaying the financing will constrain spending on player salaries in the nearer future.

The medium to long term boost will come when the project financing is replaced with long term financing, as it will be cheaper, so that's exactly as I've always said it would be.

The uplift in revenues overall I still see in the £100-150 mill range, but long term debt holders will want to probably see 2-3 maybe even 4 years of revenue and costs before offering 25/30/35 year term bonds/mortgages at lower, probably fixed rates. There's alot of pension funds that love holding these types of cash producing bonds and we'd be as close to blue-chip in PL football terms as any could wish for.

So, my 'finance guess/model' (based on large project financing) is still as before; 4-5 years of restraint/tight cashflow control followed by around £50-£75 mill a year of net free cash revenue for the club to use where it matters - on the pitch. With the 16 other events a year by then in full swing, it holds out the possibility that it could be far more than that...but I thought I'd stick to my conservative projections.

That would put us at about 180 million in salaries.

Where does that stack up against City, United and Chelsea?

It's easier to look at total revenues, and ours would be pushing £400- million by then, and as a rule now PL clubs are under financial prudence being tasked to keep salaries at 55-60% of turnover.

We'd probably still be around £100 mill short of their revenues, simply because of their commercial power, but who knows, we're talking 4-5 years away !?

Tight cash flow? How much are we talking? Zero net like we normally do? Just use the money we generate from players sales?
