Aston Villa vs Everton Saturday 18th September 17:30

Douglas Luiz worries me a little, he is better the further up the pitch he is, as his pass to Cash for the first goal was sublime, but he gets knocked off the ball way too easily, with a first challenge. Then he never recovers for the second, this is why he gives so many fouls away near our own penalty box, when playing deep. Nakamba looks far better in that deeper roll.

If we are to carry on with a 3-5-2 then it would be Ashley Young over Matt Targett for me.

He helped Inter Milan win the Italian league playing wing-back and has more to his game that's suitable in that system than Targett has who is better suited to playing a more traditional full-back.

I can only assume people talking about playing Bailey as a full-back are taking the piss.
Moi taking the piss , never ;)

I agree. When Bailey came on he was hardly operating as a wing back was he? He was more of a forward in a front three, with Watkins and Ings remaining on the pitch the entire shape changed, it was hardly a lift and shift.

Bailey won't be here to play as a wingback. To get Bailey, who is most likely our best player ability wise firing we need him in a front three, simple as that.

For some reason I was bloody knackered last night when I got home so by the time i had eaten I was nodding off on the sofa in between watching our game on MOTD. So no post match posts.

For a start , wtf is it about Everton under the lights at VP. That last half hour was absolutely epic . What an atmosphere and what a great sight it was seeing us move up a gear to put a very good side to the sword . By the way , a lot of whinging by Rafa about injuries. Suck it up buttercup. welcome to our world.

First half we were the better side but our crossing was absolutely woeful. I’m not convinced on 3-5-2 at all as a permanent formation. I think it has a place to switch to depending on the opposition . But if we see it as our formation going forward , where are we going to fit Bert, Buendia and Bailey in starting games. And Cash is ok but Targett was woeful and is not a wing back, no pace and can’t cross. He is struggling this season , nowhere near his standards of last season. Doesn’t seem fit to me but playing in a 3–5-2 isn’t for him . But to be honest we played a 4 at Watford and he was worse than yesterday.

Stand out players as discussed by others. But I thought Duggie was again very good. The cushioned pass for Cash was sublime and a touch of class. Don’t give a shit what others say, they are wrong, he is a player and will get even better. Still concerned about our lack of creating chances for Ings and Watkins. Yet to be convinced on their partnership. Busy, work rate from both and sublime skill for the Ings assist but Ollie was a bit of headless chicken tbh . Too much work being done by our two forwards dropping deep to the halfway line and then when we broke the box was empty.

Finally, that atmosphere. Yes we all , including me, want the holy grail of leagues and champions league but actually if that means turning into a bland , sterile Ethiad atmosphere then bollox to it . That last night was why i go to football. Maybe wall to wall success isn’t quite the thing to strive for.

Only seen the MOTD highlights so will obviously pay attention to those in attendance yesterday. But my take on things with limited information is that we nullified an under strength ( no DCL or Richarlison, Pickford) for 60 minutes, Deano makes the changes Cash scores a screamer following great build up play, Bailey forces an own goal then after a sublime pass from Ings, Bailey scores a rocket that if it wasn't for the net would of landed on the express way. Pick that fucker out! Set pieces look well thought out and executed and we finally have bench depth and quality.
If this is Deano reaching his "ceiling " then long may it continue. As Bailey screamed at the camera...yeah man 👍

MacPhee is a revelation. People are knocking Smith for the 'exodus' of coaching staff this summer but he almost surely would have been behind MacPhee's recruitment.

For as long as I can remember we've been largely shite at set pieces at this level. This changed under MON somewhat but thus far our corners have never looked so good and we can actually utilise throw-ins properly, something I've never seen in my lifetime supporting the club.

Yep. Good point about set pieces. They are definitely alot better. These things are the marginal gains type thing aren’t they. Every point counts and winning and getting 3 points or a draw from a well rehearsed set piece could come the end of season mean alot.

If that first half one ending with the Ings volley had gone in it would be an absolute genius set piece.

Regular little Tony Pulis is our Austin, long throw to the big bloke to flick on, real genius, bang the corners in fast and flat at the near post, not hard is it really.

The one yesterday where we worked the free-kick to Targett who crossed to Konsa was indeed a set play plan < I'll give him that one was pretty original

Are you quoting me for being right, or wrong? I’m claiming being right, 3-5-2 wasn’t going to see us win the game. We changed to four at the back and 3 forwards, then blew them away in ten minutes.
You should be a football manager with that ability to turn hindsight into foresight

Nah. Disagree. Yes in its simplist form . But there is all sorts of movement going on in the box wiith our players. That takes it up a level above long throw - flick on. But I think most of us mean corners and free kicks are the real improvement any how.

Question. Has the interior of Villa Park changed in some way this season. The gate was given as 41888, which is circa 1000 below our given capacity, but when trying to purchase tickets whilst up in Bromsgrove last week website saying sold out.

It’s always marginally below capacity due to policing and segregation of away fans
