Aston Villa v Swans (FA Cup)

A break from league action this Saturday then, as next up is Aston Villa away in the FA Cup.
Having already played them home and away this season and lost both matches by the odd goal, its about time we got our own back.
The form guide shows they’ve only won one match in the last six.
Ironically that was against us at the Liberty on Boxing Day, where VdH hit the post and Bony missed a penalty.
There’s a sickness bug going around amongst the players, Bony, McBurnie and Montero missed training yesterday, so team selection is up in the air at the moment.
We’ll soon find out as the team travel up to Birmingham this afternoon.

Whatever the team selection the Swans should be well supported at Villa park after the free ticket giveaway to loyal Jack Army members.
The game is not being televised so an illegal internet stream maybe or radio commentary are the only options for UK armchair fans.

Match Statistics: Villa 0 v Swans 3
Possession: 46% - 54%
Shots: 10 - 14
Shots on target: 2 - 7
Corners 9 - 5
Fouls: 9 - 8

Villa 0 Swans 3 (B-Richardson 2’, Dyer 47’, Fulton 78’)
Excellent result that. Sorry I didn’t go so can’t give a report, will look at the highlights later.
Tammy Abraham didn’t play for Villa, rumour is he’s off to Wolves.
Bony, Montero and McBurnie missing due to sickness.
Baker-Richardson deputised for McBurnie and scored after two mins.

What stands out in those statistics for an away side is 14 shots on goal with 7 on target, a high number for a home side, never mind an away side. There must have been plenty of attacking football by us. Villa had 9 corners and didn’t score so obviously our defence played well and a clean sheet too.

“It was inevitable that we succumbed to a high ball once again, we just cannot defend anything in the air lately”
Above taken from my match comments Swans v Villa on Boxing Day.
Certainly not the case today after 9 corners without conceding.

All the Swans goals are on the BBC Sport FA Cup match report.
First goal was a ball into the box from VdH, which B-Richardson bundled over the line.
Fer made a superb pass for Dyer to score the second.
Fer with another great pass for Fulton to slot home.
Mulder made a crucial point blank save from Scott Hogan, Abraham’s replacement, when the score was only 0-1.

Great draw in the next round, Gillingham at home, no disrespect to them.
How ironic is that, they knocked Cardiff out in the last round, and their manager is from Swansea.
Shame all the same, as we could have been playing Cardiff, what a tie that would have been.
