Aston Villa v Newcastle Utd Match Thread 21/8 3pm

When was the last time we had a full strength squad to pick from? Beginning of last season?
To be honest every club is like that but now we can replace every player with one of equal mediocrity or averageness and not have to Have Taylor or Hourihane Elmo etc on the bench to make up numbers. We have Ramsey Chuky and Bidace instead of those 3 which is promising, soon we'll have Sanson Anwar and maybe Bert.

Won yet have we?

Luiz and Mcginn is a better midfield partnership than a dozen other premier league teams.

I think too many people compare us to City, United and Chelsea. We're not there yet.

Compare us to Newcastle, Everton, Southampton, West ham, Leeds, Burnley, Palace and Brighton our real rivals and maybe you won't be so depressed.

If we get the Luiz of last summer/autumn then I can't think of many players I'd rather have there.

The Watford game has us all a-wobble but looking at our likely team:

Emi
Cash Konsa Mings Young
Luiz McGinn
Bidace Buendia El Ghazi
Ings

I'd fancy that against anything Newcastle can put out.

Yeah I do get this, its just frustrating when you go into the season and are already looking at 1st team players picking up injuries. Like you said at least now we have for example Ings and Bailey to replace Watkins and Bert but it'd be nice it didnt happen right from the off

i compare us against who we are playing normally. Last week we got overrun by Tom fucking Cleverley

For me to have full confidence we must play:

Martinez
Cash Konsa Mings Young/Targett
Luiz Mcginn
Buendia Ramsey Bailey
Ings

Although I wouldn't mind seeing a flat middle three of:
Mcginn Nakamba and Luiz

With Mcginn and Luiz alternating at pushing forwards.

I'd still have him starting over Anwar at the moment even if he isn't quite ready :D..Either that or Bidace, looks a real prospect and I'd love for him to get his first pl start in front of the Holte
I assumed Bidace would start out right, if neither Bailey or Bert are available to start.

Maybe a more traditional 4-3-3 would both help shore up the midfield and also take some pressure off Buendia.

Emi
Cash Konsa Mings Young
Emi2 Luiz McGinn
Bidace Ings El Ghazi

It was a one off game and we didn't play well enough.

It happens.

We'll lose more games against the teams around us this season just to warn you. Brace yourself.

Hasn't it just. You'd think grown men would have been following football long enough to know a bad result one week doesn't necessarily equate to bad results every week after that.

Last season we lost to Southampton... Then beat Arsenal away.

We lost to Palace... Then beat spurs away.

It's as if we win some games, draw some games and lose some games...... Like every other team in the division.

Its the age old question isn't it. What does not quite ready to start mean? He isn't fit enough for the 90? Carrying a slight knock? Hasn't had enough time to integrate him into our system? If he's fit enough for the bench he's fit enough to start surely??

bugger.....

At least he can come on and win us the game. We are all generally harsh towards AEG and he could have a blinder, but its a bit MEH...when he's in the starting 11.
AEG starting on the left you can toss a coin if he'll play well but AEG starting right just doesn't work. He's just not fast enough to get past the full back and cross the ball in.

Yes, we could do with Buendia on the right-wing because he's fast and can cross the ball. :throw:
