Aston Villa v Millwall, Sat 9th December @ 3pm

Alert Team
Next up, it's Millwall at B6.

17th in the League but they've just battered Sheffield United 3-1 at the weekend, so their tails will be up. The sort of club who like nothing better than coming and bloodying the noses of bigger and better clubs, often quite literally.

We should have nothing to fear from this mob though, and we can't afford to drop points against teams well below us in the table.

Routine win for me - 2-0 or 2-1 at worst.

:94:

I watched the Sheffield United match. It was very even until Millwall scored the second. Both sides were full of energy but lacked skill and gave the ball away a lot. The 3-1 score flattered them.

I think it will be a fairly routine win for the good guys.

Ball retention is not our strongest suit either. Need to man up for this one and be prepared for a battle. Think a scrappy 1-0 to us akin to the Bolton result.

Millwall have sold their end out, have read/heard it’s some sort of anniversary for their fans so they’ll be up in Brum all weekend. Think the police operation will be similar to the blues home game last season.

Clearly a Villa win :94:

Has to be really, a team trying to get to the top has to beat the teams struggling. We aren't always great at doing that mind you.

I'm in corporate for this one, anything to avoid sirdennis basically :3:

This is a catch 22 team selection. Someone like Grealish would be needed for us for a bit of creativity but would be kicked off the park by them. I'd imagine they'll try to rough up young Davis as well but reckon he can rough them back, Lansbury did well on Friday but seems like the player that could be wound up, Snoddy too.... but would still have them in the starting 11.

Fair point, but I don't think Grealish is any more lightweight than Onomah, for example.

I'd probably put Grealish in for Onomah and Lansbury (yes, really Melon!!) in for Hourihane. I'm not particularly keen on Samba, but he's stronger than Elphick for me.

Yeah, agree with JPA, Grealish and Lansbury in for Onomah & Hourihane.

Feel it'll be a tough, scrappy one, but we should battle through... 1-0 I'd say.

Despite my reservations about Onomah, I'd go with the same XI that started against Leeds. I'd tell Onomah that he has 45 minutes to prove himself.

I'd tell Hourihane that his spot is under threat too and to make sure he's fully involved in this one.

I'd have O'Hare ready for the last 15 minutes.

And just when you think we're safe......

If he gets on the pitch again in a Villa shirt, I'm joining Fulford.

Well that's O'Hare and RHM condemned to the under 23s till gabby gets injured again.

I always think of Neil Ruddocks thunderbolt goal when we play Millwall. Obviously not in recent times.

We still won that game, from going behind with McInally scoring a brace.

Big boost seeing Lansbury and Grealish making an impact from the subs bench.

3-1 to Villa

3-0 win with a hat trick from Gabby, obviously.

If we're going with either Grealish/Onomah to start on Saturday and knowing that they're gonna get kicked to high heaven - maybe start with Onomah? Use him as bait! If he gets taken out and the defenders are on yellow cards, then let Jack loose! And if Josh gets injured then he gets his move back to spurs that he's looking forward to.

But only way gabby makes the team is if he is also used as a sacrificial lamb.

Maybe I'm taking my thoughts of millwall being hatchet men too far? .....

Great news that Gabby is back in training. We have 1 fit striker for fecks sake.

And when he's fit we STILL will only have one fit striker.

:19:

But no. If fit and you know, if he blesses us with being arsed and decides he likes the manager and/or coaches and hasn't got more important things to do, he gives Bruce another option.

I'd go with Grealish or O'Hare personally. O'Hare impresses me with energy, passion and application. Not felt like that with gabby for 7 odd years, I was (like you) a big fan once.

"Due to increased police officer presence at this weekend's fixture against Millwall, there will be changes to access routes around Villa Park.

There will be signage around the ground on matchday to assist with these changes."
