Aston Villa V Bristol City: Mon, 1st Jan, 17.30 PM.

As this game is only one day away best get a thread up and running.

Normally a kick off at this time means it's on the TV, however, in this case, it's not. league rules state that every team is entitled to at least 48 hours rest between fixtures and as Bristol City played on January 30 at 17.30 PM against Wolves which was selected for TV viewing, it means that City will be granted the minimum rest-period.

They have sold all their allocation of 2,100 and both players and fans should be well up for it.

Let's hope Bruce doesn't resort back to playing Jedi at centre back and restore Whelan back into the midfield as he almost boasted he would have done against Middlesborough and only illness stopped him.

Let's also hope he sets us up to give fans something to shout about for a change however as he continually shows, he doesn't learn from his mistakes and appears to be doing the job and walking around Villa Park with a sack of King Edwards on each shoulder.

Thoughts and predictions here folks.

Good Luck To The Villa Boys.

Its a must win game in my eyes.

Whelan and Davis won't be fit from what Bruce said yesterday so we will have few changes if any. I just wonder if it's worth chucking RHM in up front based on his 15 minutes yesterday , or is he better at the moment being on the bench ?

We'll have to raise our game against Bristol that's for sure . They battle every ball and break like lightning .

I'm betting Mr Stubborn we start with the same team and won't change anything until we go 2 down .

As normal I hope I'm wrong and I shouldn't be relying on hope

Well Jack will start as Onamah didn't look to good when he went off.

I would play O'Hare instead of Snodgrass , who despite his goal was pants yesterday.

I'd give RHM a run and like you say O'Hare but Snoddy can do no wrong in Bruce's eyes and he scored so he will start
Jack should have started anyway , he made a difference when he came on.

It’s good we’re famous for breaking down no nonsense teams set out with two banks of four in front of our home fans...

I’m expecting a tough game but they’re overall an average team punching slightly.

1-1

We certainly can't be playing too many long balls even if Davis is fit, Baker is 6'3 and Flint is 6'6 so we aren't going to be winning much of anything in the air.

Let’s see if we can play to Bakers’ weaknesses. As you say, in the air then there’s no point but tempting Baker up the field out of position, hopefully sliding in, then getting the ball in the channel behind him with pace. Hogan might need to do that job (pull him out of position) for someone else to exploit.

Snoddy will sulk but it could be worth Albert switching wings during the game.

I’d love to see RHM start. Hogan regardless of how negative we play looks awful and has zero confidence.

Another typical Steve ‘one game from a crisis’ Bruce set up and performance, or will we be treated to an actual decent game of football beating one of our competitors?

Jedinak makes a massive difference to our weak midfield, let’s hope he can play.

Win and we move within 3 points of Real Bristol City

:1: Yes another team that I'd struggle to name a player except Baker . They should actually be worrying about us with our what was it £80 m squad . International footballers in most positions even on the bench .

I can't see us winning this to be honest, especially as we are down to the "bare bones" of our squad, which Steve has assembled on a shoestring budget, with a bench full of 19-year olds.

Villa 0 Bristol City 2.

Happy New Year everyone :76:

90% of teams in this league are the same mould, hardly a well known name, two banks of four, two big, slow centre halves, bald bloke up top who can't score, one tricky midfielder and one with a bit of pace.

That said we can only beat who's in front of us.

This game is crying out for RHM and O'Hare to play up front and run rings around the slow Bristol defense.
