Johnny On The Spot:

# TOGETHER. Whisper it, especially with the TV cameras thinking again that where Manchester City are concerned they'd really rather not, Manuel Pellegrini's squad are really starting to click... Utterly wretched as beleaguered Aston Villa are, today deserted by thousands of their fans, you can only beat what's in front of you and a freshened up youthful City side took them to the absolute cleaners. A Wembley trip already in the bag, belief is clearly surging through a side bouyed by 4 clean sheets in 6 games including 16 goals for to 3 against...Much as we must keep our feet firmly on the ground 36 games into a season that if City were to go all the way across 4 competitions would reach 64, there is a growing sense across Planet Blue that this really could be a very special year...I firmly believe that The Engineer deserves enormous credit right now having propelled City into an array of big shouts for silverware when shorn of key internationals like Aguero, Silva, Clichy, Kompany, Mangala, Nasri, Zabaleta and now De Bruyne for such lengthy periods, nevermind repeat knocks to other players at important times, not forgetting a shot Touré...This was a perfect day at the office. A Premier League side walloped with 4 MCFC Academy graduates on show (not that you will read that in any of the hacks reports tomorrow) and 4 goals with none returned on the road in front of a superb travelling support who made up close to a third of the match attendance...As I've maintained on the spot since the turn of the year, the hard work has been done to get us into a tremendous position in the overall campaign. The platform is built despite a raft of ropey showings. But rather than bemoan the fatigue of this time last season, the squad look hungry for more and the frequency of games is seeing the side begin to play themselves into form...The stats emphasise a more direct approach with playmakers rested today and that Plan B might yet continue to serve The Blues well for what could yet prove to be a Magnificent Seven run of season defining fixtures which began today. My Man of the Match of course being our teenage centre forward...Were the rags boasting this young talent we'd certainly never hear the last of it. We should be happy to see open secrets like himself stay under the radar...

- JB will be off duty for Sunderland returning for the Big One against Leicester.

Manuel Pellegrini:

"I'm very happy. We made some important changes because it's important to rotate with so many matches to play...Kelechi is a very good young player. We let Jovetic and Dzeko go because I see Kelechi every day and know what he can do. Sagna made well at centre-back, he didn't make any mistakes, and Caballero was solid in goal...On the penalty, I told Bacary Sagna to tell Kelechi to take the penalty. I see him take penalties every day, so he was in charge."

Night shift. But will be checking in!

if you want me to enter you into the comps pm me with your team and BTC guesses, I will do the bonus for you if 5th sets one.

A welcome rest for the the squad and not having to call on the senior players as the youngsters do a job on Villa, who to progress needed to win the match and therefore come out to play. The feeling is that Bacuna should have seen red, but whether we will get to see that is another matter or the media could spin it and blame Sterling.

"We let Jovetic and Dzeko go because I see Kelechi every day and know what he can do"

Ouch.

Read it and weep Edin and Steven - for me the message is clear, they weren't cutting it or as committed as this young man. Pellegrini is backing his judgement and his faith is being replayed.

The goals and highlights are available via this BBC link - looks distinctly like the segment that will feature on MOTD so unless you can save yourself some time and watch them now. I might just record it if only to listen to what they have to say and out young Kelachi.

First time I have seen them and I am hugely impressed by his composure or the penalty and the third goal. His alertness for the first and his reading of the game for the third were also commendable. What a gem.

Also loved how he set up Sterling for the fourth when he could have gone for it himself. Lovely penalty as well as showing the predatory prowess in front of goal that all top goal scorers seem to have when he netted his opener.

One for both the present and the future, let's hope we can keep hold of him when the big clubs come knocking.

Sturridge probably the most recent (not forgetting JM7 of course) but Chelsea and Arsenal will both be looking for strikers sooner rather than later. Needs to keep feet on the ground!

Well ok, I suppose you could argue that 7 years is still recent, but are Chelsea and Arsenal 'big'ger clubs now? Jimmy claims he left for game time. if Kelechi isn't getting that in a couple of years time, then he won't be any great loss, as his career will clearly have faultered
