Around the Grounds

It was a behind closed doors friendly they also have Bolton to play, their fans forum is in meltdown over this plus the shortage of signings.

It appears the WC has really delayed signings as several clubs will be rushing over the next couple of weeks to get players in.

It is very interesting how many clubs have had shocking preseasons poor performances and a lack of signings so it definitely not just Lincoln.

PNE are one of the championship teams struggling to get under the 85% csr bar, their usual squad cost ratio is 120-139% of turnover. Their signings will be low cost. And they will be relying on u21s from the youth set up to fill out the squad.

Going forward imps also need to look at bridging the gap from academy to first team squad, as developing u21s has no effect on the new financial penalties.

Really? And for what success?!

One of, if not the most uninspiring club in the Championship.

Preston and Bristol strike me as two of the most "boring" clubs in the country. Never go up, never go down. Rarely threaten the playoffs. Just years and years of stagnation.

Wrexham have offered 2.5 m for Preston captain
Also Man u have said Toby Collyer is free to leave one year left on his contract would he be someone we could afford or want

Don't know him but having had a quick look, he could be a decent option alongside McGrandles and Varfolomeev. Not much experience, spent last season on loan at WBA and Hull but didnt make many appearances.

Preston’s record fee paid was just £2m or so for Osmajic. They are well established and prudently run….but it still takes £10m plus investment every season to keep them there.

This summer they smashed that to bring in Alfie Devine in for £6m. Many of their fans bemoan the lack of budget……I remind them of the 2k attendance vs the Imps in 85 and how far they have come since.

They owe it all to the Hemmings family who have ploughed in £100m over the last 8-10 years.

They fell away horribly after Christmas, fans couldn’t see where the next point was coming from after Everton recalled Harrison Armstrong. He’s only 18.

Yep, fancy them and Blackburn to be down there with Portsmouth, Charlton, Bolton and us. Maybe Watford will finally succumb to their mismanagement as well.
That's largely my take as well, although I expect Bolton to be fairly safe. We have two-three massive six pointers in the first few games.

Forgot to add that the Hemmings family have been looking for new investors to buy. A US/Saudi takeover has been in the offing for ages but not yet over the line.

The championship altogether another world.

Hence Ridsdale instigating the 6 team play-off formula. Hard to compete with the yoyo ex prem teams albeit some implode.

Preston are struggling for players, Blackburn aren't too chuffed with their pre-season and likewise Derby and Sheffield United from what I've seen.

Eustace will be out the door if the takeover goes through, I’ve just read his comments and he’s not a happy chappy
