Are our 'untouchables' hurting us

I wonder if we have a group of players that are playing like they are 'untouchables'.

Its almost like the management are scared to drop some of them for fear of unleashing a "Disrespectful of the club" & "Transfer me" situation.

I looked at a few of them today and thought 'you are playing shit. You played shit the other week. But you still start. and are also not being substituted for no good reason other than you have a certain name on the back of your shirt.'

Ali being a prime example.
And Ericson for that matter.

It was blindly obvious Kane wasn't going to score today. Why not give Jansen a shake at the stick?

I know its only two games in and we are not blessed with a hugely experienced squad. But to me the attitude from a few of our so called 'jewels' looks a bit...lazy.

Just my twopenneth worth after todays match.

Agreed. I bet a few of them have been tapped up. That with players like Trippier, Wana not being fit or ready. The lack of pace at Wembley was always going to be a problem.

We need some new signings that will actually get game time.

I thought Kane got really involved today and worked his butt off. Unlucky not to score but still more likely to do so than Janssen. You're right though about a fitting candidate for the lazy, underperforming tag definitely Alli.

Wembley = Big Game + Lloris = fuckup.

Time we ditched this myth of a great goalie, he really is not all that, he always screws us in big games, usually the near post fuckup n all.

Jesus, its only been 2 games lol.

These players are untouchable for a reason and thats because levy wont get his cheque book out.

Things will settle down when window closes agree tho possibly certain players are playing even though so far have been underpreforming

I guess you'll be happy to see Gazzaniga arrive, or would prefer a keeper of greater stature?

I rate Hugo but Chiv is bang on. Against the best teams in the big games he does make mistakes.

Maybe Vorm should get a run to give him a kick up the ass?

I thought he worked hard. But he just didn't look like he was gonna score. Think Janssen needs more than 4 mins to do something.

How long have I been questioning Hugo's ability ?

Distribution, decision making, close up saves, penalties. He doesn't excell in any of these.

He certainly shouldn't be captain either.

But thats my point. Certain players know that and seem to be on cruise control. Some were like it last season. Blame Levy all you like -but I can't be doing with lack of effort or doing the bear minimum.

It's not only the big teams for club & country, Leics in May also rings a bell. Too many instances. I'm not convinced by Vorm either.

Vorm is 33, so we need a young keeper coming through. This gazza bloke looks proper crap so I hope it isn't him. I thought Lopez had some good qualities to bad that went Pete Tong.

Alli needs a kick up the arse for sure, he just doesn't get involved as much as he should. Thought Kane was decent today and unlucky not to score, if the month was September he would have scored today.

Thought Eriksen was decent today. His set pieces are so much more consistent as well. (shame we can't get on the end of a bloody corner!!)

And how must Harry feel watching this big game loser lead us out ?

By labelling them untouchable they know they don't have to fight for the place.

As did Levys comments about not being players out there better than we have.

There aren't many 'great' goal keepers who don't make mistakes, was he the issue or the player recieving the ball?

Alli was clearly following orders; he played almost the entire game on the left, got isolated far too easily against a highly disciplined defence, who doubled up on him everytime he got near the ball.

He was played and stayed on the left to occupy Moses (whose pace was an issue for us) and it just didn't work because they played deep and double timed every attack.

It showed why Poch should be concerned about our lack of pace - if we lose Rose anytime soon, our high press will be exposed by our inability to get past the backs to the byline and to use the channels effectively.

Tactically, Poch got this wrong.

Alli would have had 2 goals if Kane looked up.....

As Ex says, where Alli was played he couldn't really get stuck in - the graft was to be done by Dier, Wanyama and Dembele. The issue for me being that Wanyama just wasn't at the races at all. Maybe Alli should have ignored instructions and dropped deeper to be more involved, but I'm not sure that would have helped. In fact when he did come back to help out he gave away the free kick that resulted in their first goal.

He didn't have a good game, but much like Berbatov a few years back - even during an anonymous performance he's capable of a moment of magic that could turn the game on its head, so you really want to leave him on in case that moment comes at the end of the game.

Poch didn't necessarily get the tactics wrong for me... We were on top and had chances. Kane's one that hit the post goes in or if he receives Dembele's pass then you could say he got it right. Dele's foul (plus an incredible free kick) Wanyama and Lloris errors cost us the game. They had 2 shots on target all game, much like the last time we played them at Wembley it was them being clinical when we made mistakes vs us not being clinical at all.
