Here's what you're up against.

The comment about Championship losses relates to total losses in one season for all Championship clubs - it's not related to Blackburn Rovers. The median loss in the Championship is £20,000,000 per season (400k per week)

Isnt that mostly caused by clubs chasing the premier league.. we wouldnt be doing that. Budget within our means, hope for a lot of luck and expect to get relegated.

if you look at the current Championship league table, 2 of the 3 promoted (from Div 1)teams are in the relegation zone, -Luton and Barnsley and the other team Charlton are only a few places above them.
The financial gulf between Div 1 and Championship is immense.

Also of the teams promoted to Division 1 from Div2. MK Dons and Tranmere are in and around the relegation zone and we who were Div 2 Champions are just a few places above them.

In the Premier League, the promoted teams- Norwich and Villa are in the relegation zone and only Sheffield Utd are bucking the trend.

The Blades have just caught everyone out with their style of play, much like Rotherham did in the championship a few years back. They have a go, rather than sit in for 90 minutes.
The Blades will be found out at some point, much like Rotherham were in the championship a few years back.

The difference in the Premier League is that the financial disparities within the division are not so great, at least for the bulk of the league - you are not relying on the wealth of your owner.

Were we to go up to the Championship the wage bill of the other clubs would be between double and five times ours. That's not the case in the PL so you have a much better chance of staying up if you can negotiate the first season

Yeovil made it to the Championship 2013/14 even for only one season, must have been a good ride, but seeing where they are now did they ever recover financially and on the field. Ambition !!

It’s complete madness, and has to end up in financial disaster sooner or later for some of them. I think Bury are the start of it.

Peterborough United published its accounts yesterday with more detail than is customary for clubs at our level.

In 2018-19 they made a massive operating loss of over £5.5 million on a turnover of £6.5m (much lower turnover plus increased wages). This was mostly offset by their huge profit of £4.4m on player transfers (mostly Jack Marriott and Gwion Edwards the latter of which who was so unimpressive last Sunday for Ipswich)

Still lost over £1m, though, despite that.

Wage bill at Peterborough is £5.3m (82% of turnover)

Obviously they still have some very saleable players indeed, but despite the success of this model they have still lost £4.4m in the last five years.

The club owes £1m in bank loans and almost £7m to the owner(s)

Without a multi millionaire benefactor, control your costs and you control your long term future. Clive will have carefully reconsidered all our staff costs since the Cowleys left. Hopefully new targets set for those employed to produce income, less hangers on, and a realistic playing budget.

Continued high home gates will have helped, but still expecting losses of £1.5 m + for us during the year, due to overall staffing costs, depreciation and lack of player sales. We shall see.

Maybe a couple of sales are likely then?
The main reason the Cowleys left is because the board couldn't give them the budget they wanted.

Toney will go this window (probably to Huddersfield) for £3-4m .... maybe DC will snap up Andrade/Toffolo/Chapman for £1-1.5m, seeing as he has big bucks to spend? 🤔

The Cowleys weren’t willing to sacrifice their careers being satisfied with being mid table and maybe that’s what they could see, and in danger of reducing their stock....and in truth earned the right to have a crack at the Championship.

In some respect though we have possibly ended up with a better technical coach who may actually more suited to having us challenge at the top of League 1 with lesser resources.

Time will tell,

Watching on Sunday I’m inclined to agree, despite the palpitations suffered when passing around our own 6 yard box 🙈

Does Huddersfield really have money? They have players they want to get rid of who are on good money at Huddersfield and they don't have that much they can get a lot for. Mooy is currently on loan so probably can't be sold yet, but even if he goes in the summer he's coming up to 30. Grant scores most of their goals.

I don't think they will actually have a very big budget as unlike other Championship owners they don't have one who can throw a lot of money at it.

Believe that their famously isn't that wealthy.
Suppose it depends how much of the parachute payments they have left?
I doubt that the Cowleys would have gone there without some cash to spend, afterall that's why they left here.

They have 5 or 6 players about to be off-loaded who were on Premier League wages. So will clear the way for some players coming in.
