As expected this suggests no chance of anything realistically being implemented before 2021 at the earliest.

I know I’m not over there but I have to say, from our general experience in Western Australia (& some of the other States & Territories, though not NSW and especially Victoria) we went into immediate total lockdown (apart from essential services) for a couple of months from the beginning of March. Our State Premier has adopted an ultra cautious approach based on health advice and a phased lifting of restrictions. He still maintains a hard border with the other States and Territories within Australia and there are only internal WA passenger flights - nothing inter-State and nothing international (apart from strictly controlled repatriation flights where the few that come in go straight into controlled quarantine). Social distancing, no indoor venue events, etc has been the order of the day. Based on the numbers of cases and deaths the strategy has been successful with only 709 cases and only 9 deaths. You can’t argue with the figures, especially when you see what is happening elsewhere in the world with all those who don’t believe in social distancing, masks, lockdown, etc.
As regards sport, they adopted a system of ‘hubs’ in different States for Aussie Rules football where teams had to base themselves in that State for a few games, after undergoing quarantine, and there have been a few games with limited crowds, and for the first time they are holding the Grand Final away from Melbourne (in Brisbane). There are still tight crowd restrictions in other sporting codes but I expect those to lift gradually according to the status of the virus, or be reintroduced if it gets worse again 🤞🤞.

I see the NRL finals are having crowds in the grounds. Shame we can't adopt a similar system here for the Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

Australia and New Zealand do seem to have dealt with this really well.
Ultra strict has worked best of all.
We haven't had anything remotely strict and still no sign of it.

As for going to games, I would definitely exclude away fans for starters just to stop unnecessary travel.
Then, after that some consistency is needed.
People were actually paid to fill up pubs and restaurants in August, and little non league grounds can have up to 600 going.
Yet wide open large racecourses can have no one and large stadia can have no one, whilst Albert Hall is allowed an indoor audience at 50% capacity.
None of it adds up.

Safety has to come first but all the inconsistent rules show that it isn't.

How many could we get in if people were sat around 2 metres apart? (And quite a few could be sat in pairs or threes for example).

If we (and other clubs) could safely accommodate 10% that at least would help greatly for clubs finances.
1000 fans for us, 7500 at Man Utd, and so on.

Australia did lock down quick and what perthimp posted arlier is spot on. In qld all codes stsrted playing again in july and with 100 people max now its 75 per cent of capacity. With community football i think its a few hundred. Sign in is required on arrival. I think bar victoria the other states have had low figures. We had huge fines and police and army manning borders. Plus we dont have as much overcrowding as you guys in the uk. I think thats where we gained traction early and got back to as near normal quickly

What really, and I mean really, annoys and angers me, is the people going on about how they aren't going to follow the rules.

I work in the care industry, so have been on the front line since right from the start, and it isn't easy.

It is hell, but keep tweeting about how the restrictions etc are harsh and so on...

And full support for you and all like yourself in that vital frontline.
And it's absolutely frustrating every time idiots blatantly disregard even the rules we do have. And they are far from harsh, just the bare minimum frankly.
Scenes of huges parties, brainless demonstrations and all such occurrences are simply propogating the virus more and more and causing more cases and more deaths and lengthening the disruption to normal life and adding many more months to this weird chaos we are all living through.

I would love to go to watch the mighty imps. Same as I would love to go down my local and have a drink and a game of pool with my grandson. However I won't be doing either for a very long time. I am quite happy to be alive and healthy. I have no wish to bring covid home to my wife.
It is all about opinions and everybody has a right to their own. But I honestly feel it is irresponsible to even raise a petition for attendances (even limited ones) at football or any other sporting events during current conditions. Sadly the public cannot be trusted. When I drive passed my local and it is packed outside with people intermingling without safety masks on or socially distancing it confirms to me that pubs should not be open.
Perhaps the fans can be socially distanced inside the grounds but it is what happens before and after the game when this would go out the window.
We cannot put economics ahead of peoples lives. People are dying not just of covid but from cancer etc, because they cannot get treated because the health service is overrun with covid patients.
The first lock down started too late and ended too soon , this pathetic government
need to introduce another one.i love my football club but we should not be prepared to treat people as 'collateral ' damage just for the sake of football or economics.

Well hard to disagree with any of that.
And good point about what fans might do before and after games, irrespective of how safe people may be sat during games.
My annoyance is the inconsistency, allowing several hundred into little grounds but zero into big grounds.
If none for us, then should be none full stop.
And frankly that is the likely path we are now on. Lockdown was too late and ended too early and now we'll soon have another full lockdown.

Much of this comes down to trusting the general public in adhering to regulations. There is clear evidence of that trust being abused most days and unfortunately football supporters, through the past actions of a small minority , are considered un-trustworthy. I am sure that most if not all of us on here will be willing to follow every restriction. I'm really unconvinced that all supporters of clubs, ours included would.

Agreed - from what I’ve seen the UK Govt is not being consistent or sensible. For example, they put a 10pm curfew on pubs. So, what they are saying is you can’t get Covid before 10pm. I guess that would just be downright unsociable of the disease 🤔🤣😂. Ok, so then what about all those who get turfed out at 10pm and play cricket in the street or gather outside or in houses. 😡🤬. Irresponsible, but given the inconsistent and weak messages from the leadership can’t say I blame some of them.

Maybe a better temporary use of football grounds would be to house said fucking idiots in them for 3 weeks until they've infected each and every moron around them. Thus leaving the sensible ones to return to something close to normality quite a bit sooner!

Thought we played well yesterday and fully deserved our point !

For the atmosphere it would be a big improvement, but there will be no additional income for the Club, just outgoings on extra stewards and probably insurance and the like. It costs a lot of money just to open the Ground up. The Club are already incurring huge losses , should we be adding to them until more fans can attend.

Your post is embarrassing.

What leads the pseudo-socialist twats on this site to believe that anyone is even the tiniest bit interested in their bitter crap?

Allow me to remind everyone: this is a site about Lincoln City.

End of. Get a fucking life if you cannot understand that.

I think a post when you should be asleep is more embarrassing.

Where have I said I am socialist? For the avoidance of doubt I have lost faith in politics and politicians many years ago - red blue and yellow.

my post was full of fact:

Politicians are bent - all sides of the house. The current ruling party have on countless times shown this.

The Albert Hall is being allowed to be open with an audience when football stadia are not.

Boris Johnson is a cretin - there are people in his own party who would not vote for him.

Oh and yes I have a life which is why I was fast asleep at 03:30.

But don’t worry I will not take this personally - I will still read your posts (I also have your book) and will contribute to the Site.

I do fear for this country it is a mess and I fear it is going to get worse. There will be social discord far worse then anything seen before and the hypocrisy and apparent inequity of the management of CV-19 will cause it.
