Dele Alli is confident that new signings will help improve Tottenham

Dele Alli is confident that new signings can help Spurs improve as a team, following Davinson Sanchez's arrival from Ajax.

Sanchez joined Tottenham last week for a club-record £40m and Alli believes that increased competition for places will lead to better performances on the pitch.

"It's a positive step, I think we've got a strong side at the minute anyway so any player that the gaffer and the chairman thinks is going to help the squad can only be a positive," said Alli, following the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

"Competition is always good so I'm sure the players at the back will be working hard to try and keep their places and he'll be coming in and trying to fight for his place.

"If everyone's trying and everyone's playing well it can only be a positive effect on the team."

Spurs are looking to bounce back from their defeat to Chelsea in what was their first Premier League appearance at Wembley.

"It was a good performance from us overall but a few little errors that we need to make sure we cut out," Alli added.

"We hear a lot of talk about it being about Wembley but as players we know it's nothing to do with that.

Things just didn't go our way today and we just got to make sure we put things right."

Mauricio Pochettino's side will have the chance to end their Wembley woes when they host Burnley on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

'things just didn't go our way today'.............regretably that is what a lot of the support thinks and uses as an excuse. Reality is that we do what we did quite often when it matters - not that it did matter too much as it was only the 2nd game of the season - and we confuse possession with winning.

It was a carbon copy of the CC Final and FAC semi against Chelsea - quality of tactical thinking was at the root between a manager with nous and one without.

Get ready for it chaps.... unless we are careful here we could well be moving into a new stadium with a mid table team full of youth products..... not that it's a bad thing of course it's what we all want after all.

I think that's a foregone conclusion.

But I still think a PL title is within our grasp.

Selling players like Rose and Walker has been, is, and will be for the foreseeable future, the way we work.

The key for me is if Levy reinvests all sale proceeds back into players. If he starts to skim funds from those proceeds for whatever purpose then we have a right to call him on it based on his open comments about what his intentions are.

Paraphrased, he said "The stadium will not impact our football plans or spending".

'Our' football plans when meaning ENIC Hotspur haven't ever included trying to win something, so I still make him as right in his comment.

You're preaching to the choir.

It's funny that Poch says we will only sign players that will fit into the type of players we already have, and yet he is about to sign a player who has beaten up a policeman and served time for assault!

Doesn't say much for the mindset of the players we already have! Lol.

He's relatively cheap in this market as PSG want to get rid and we need a RB. Makes sense.

As Devon said, it was a French policeman. :39:

Nice one!

Why wouldn't Ali say that?

Why would we spend to go backwards? We've already gone backwards without spending.

If selling the foundation that galvanizes our defense is the way forward according to '80 then God help us.

Regularly turning over players to make a profit, then reinvesting in the unknown will mean we're constantly in transition mode, and we'll never really hit our strides.

Anyway, Poch and Levy apparently know what they're doing, so we'll see how the plan goes against Everton.

I can see the press conference post match..."We played well and had plenty possession. Our new signings will take time to adapt to our style once they're match ready. I'm not worried about Kane's lack of goals, He's a quality striker. Everton have a great squad, but I think we were the better team today". :20:
