All hail king Nuno

Let's be honest, we all loved Cooper. most of us were sad to see him go, even if many of us could see we needed a change.

In crept Nuno. He didn't speak like Cooper, had a poker face, didn't do fist pumps or engage the fans in the same way.

so we've watched with interest to see what he can do.

Feels like he has earned his kudos and its time we acknowledged him fully- kept us up and prevented us from imploding and losing the good vibes from the Cooper era. It felt like we were improving at the back end of last season but was difficult to work out what was him and what was inertia. There were rumours in the summer he might be off.

fast forward to yesterday and with a full pre season I think we are starting to see and appriciate the job he is doing. aided and abetted by recruitment we have improved almost every aspect of the team. He has demonstrated flexibility and tactical nous such that we can genuinely enter every game and feel we can get something. yesterday showed we can even shithouse better than we did- and we were good at shithousing before.

Cooper gave us some magical mememories and nuno delivered his first for us yesterday. so step forward super nuno, the uncontested new king of the city ground.

Always liked him as a person but was sceptical when he came in. The fact that he didn’t particularly pull up any trees (!) keeping us up didn’t help.

He has definitely benefitted from a more targeted transfer window and has now had a full pre-season but the first 3 games showed pretty much all the familiar weaknesses.

Yesterday was an absolute masterclass though and could be a watershed moment for us. The big test for me is whether we do push on and although I am edging to his side of the fence, it will be this that decides things for me. First milestone is where we are after 10 games…

I was also sceptical, but part of that was Cooper nostalgia.
I also just think he struggled last season. He kept us up and earned his chance but it was hardly plain sailing was it?

I'm delighted he's still here and I remember saying last season that he would be different with a preseason behind him.

Without doubt the quality of our performances improved almost immediately under him

The summer was crucial. We now need to solve the issue of taking more chances, now that we have really tightened up our defence.

I would say liverpools best chance yesterday was the error by Yates. Liverpool created zero.

Wolves had a couple of looks and scored a worldie. Bournemouth got a fluke

I think if we can get Taiwos confidence up then we have a great chance of converting more chances as we will have another attacking option

As for yesterday, the summer recruitment focusing on improving the 11 was there for all to see

Moreno and Milo. Fantastic quality. JWP will have better games where we will be on the front foot more

Let’s get 2/3 v Fulham and repeat yesterday next week and v Chelsea

It should be possible to give full credit to Nuno without having to find any fault at all with Cooper at the same time

2 different managers who took us over in 2 entirely different situations
Cooper did exactly what we hired him to do, and its one of the hardest things to do in the modern game. Getting promoted with half a team to the EPL and then keeping us there was a miracle.
So far, Nuno's done everything asked of him too.

I would argue cooper did a hell of a let more than we realistically hired him for, but it is clear he took as far as he could.

Still early days for Nuno but starting to show was he can do with time and putting his stamp on the squad etc

Good times

Owd appriciate. Owd mememories. 🙄FFS. He does deserve his own thread though.

He's starting to win me over I must admit but I'd still feel better about things if we could get the wins over the so called lesser teams. Bournemouth and Wolves this season for example. Having said that yesterday's win was incredible and I hope we can keep it up. Remember Chelsea away last season? A great result that got us all excited and then the season turned to shit again. I'll be happy with a draw at Brighton but anything other than a win at home to Fulham just won't do.

Whilst I wouldn’t want to dis what coops did for us, it will always be a question as to what if we kept with him. An interesting comparison (at least in the short term) is how Leicester get on. I say short term because I fear by Christmas Leicester will have lost patience.

I forgot to include all the PSR bullshit etc. He kept calm and managed it very well.

agree. thought we were a bit unlucky in both the boremouth and dogs game.

i rated Nuno from day one, said it was a sideways move at the time because I did rate coops but he was never really the owners man. Quality performance. i just blanketed the entire team as an 8.5 rather than pick out anybody

Nuno's tenure has been a proper case of a half full glass, and it's taken a long time to learn if it was half full or half empty.

Throughout all of last season his tenure felt like it could go either way, with moments suggesting we were improving followed by frustration and feeling like we'd taken another 2 steps back. He really didn't give us anything to either fully justify or fully dispel concerns, and so the question marks have just....hung there unanswered for months.

This season I feel like he's finally answering those questions marks, and happily for all involved it's in the positive sense. He's looking happier, more invested, results are good and the team are playing well. Home form could really do with an upturn - seeing wins at home really helps get fans onside far more than away wins, but we're definitely moving the right way and I think we could go far under Nuno as things stand.

Hope he gets his own chant at the WFCG soon, I've not really heard any for Nuno yet from the Upper BC.

Different challenge this weekend. Nuno got selection and plan bang on but Liverpool played in to their hands. Chatter angst fans before game was about who they should rest, who to bring off when 3-0 up at half time and how to play AC. Liverpool played as if they believed similar.

Brighton will not be thInking about next Sunday, they will be focused on this. They will not go thru motions or gamble by over reaching and going three at back. Ipswich showed how to get a point and pops Forest. Should be happy with that rather than gambling and going for three. Nuno May have to prepare for both scenario’s and decide on events.

I would expect Nuno to be at tomorrows game when Brighton are at home to Wolves in Carabao. I would expect both managers to go strong. Should be a good insight in to how to play and set up for Sunday.

agree with this. one swallow doesn't make a summer and the result against liverpoo doesn't mean we can sit back and watch while we cruise to a top 10 finish.

a bit like Churchill tho, I do think this is the end of the beginning. we are back in the PL and competing, no longer fighting for a beach head and clinging on.

where we go from here is down to everyone at the club. hopefully everyone is on the same page and wants to compete at the highest level possible.
