2 years to go on his contract and we didn't find the time to sit with him on a new contract.

Better players in our youth team and not worth the money etc etc

It's interesting he is saying the club are not acting, sounds like he wants to stay.

Not the way to treat the best CB in Europe is it? Suffering Christ give the man what he wants ffs.

Where did he say that?

That contract contains a clause that says if Spurs trigger a year-long extension in 2019 Alderweireld can leave for a fee of £25m, and the club want to eradicate this clause from any new deal

"No news that I know of so nothing...zero," Alderweireld told Sky Sports News before Tottenham's International Champions Cup clash with Manchester City in Nashville.

I read that is the club are dragging feet over it

Levy better get this one sorted
Will be seriously pissed if we fuck this up.

Me too. And if Dier leaves I will be very very pissed off as well.

We may trigger the extra year after the summer window closes, as I understand it, it's his agent/the demands that's the issue; his advisors want the clause to stay but also want close to a doubling of his wages.

In this market, what's his true worth - £40, 50 mill?

Tricky, but my bet is a compromise will be reached.

If Walker goes for 50m Toby goes for a lot more. What does it take to get the best CB in the league and Europe?

Which is why (if it exists - and I do find it hard to believe that we'd have ever allow one in the first place, as it's club policy NOT to allow such clauses) - we need to get it removed.

I bet alder wants 100k a week and we should pay the man. Why would he get rid of his clause, he knows anyone will pay that for him so its a good option to have.

Thought that was why you said it, but it could also be that his agents are putting very hefty contract demands to the club and they have made a counter-proposal?

There is no excuse in not paying him on a par with the topr 5 at the club though, and one hopes that it isn't Levy penny-pinching.

It's this penny-pinching (relatively speaking) over pay that's causing us problems........we simply can't afford to risk letting players like Toby go. Sometimes it seems the Club wants to create problems.

pay him parity with our top earners... Could see someone paying £65M+ for him easily in this current crazy market and would cost us an absolute fortune to find someone close to his level
