AFC Wimbledon

Would we get the trophy next week if we managed to win it? Or do they only give out the trophy on the last day of the season (most likely on tv)?

Whats the word then?
Considering the season we have had, quite frankly our home attendances have been piss poor to say the least .Our away support on the other hand has been magnificent .

I suspect a lot will pay on the gate. Hopefully the club push the offer hard this week. Get emails texts to everyone on the system. Fans will hopefully drag mates down on the day as well.

Doesn't appear to have been much of an uptake on the cheap tickets unfortunately.

So much for our pricing been set too high to attract better gates.
As a club we only have about 8k die hards of which the majority are middle aged / elderly blokes.
The families and youngsters dont appear to be bothered about watching a live game in their town.

Sky and modern football, it's changed things irreparably I think. I know we cross swords a bit Truelatic, but it does often baffle me why some of 'my lot' will turn up for the local derby, be in fine voice, then next match many at the game are silent and even more don't bother.

Is it just that the prices for football now are more expensive than they used to be? It was the working man's game and it was cheap enough, the cinema used to cost more. Now it's is massively the other way.

Think Lazysid has it summed up, the diehards are the older generation. I actually took the reporter David Conn to a Villa game once, for an article he was writing. He pointed out most of the people were baldies like me and him during a pre-match drink. The only kids and teenagers there were with parents. I'm sure, like me, you used to go on your own when young? I used to get looked after in the (standing) Holte End if anything occurred (and it often did!)

Just think the game is consumed very differently for so many now and I must admit, I don't feel in a position to judge. I'm daft enough to go in any state, I don't blame others not doing that (I won a football's bigger fan by Continental Tyres years ago, had a luxury safari! It was looking for the most extreme things people have done to get to a game. I went 3 days before a life-saving brain op, on my own, against doctors orders, as I kinda figured it could be my last. Turned out a shite game as well :slap:

If anyone is interested, I've had a ramble about my thoughts on the modern game:

Think we have to accept that for some of us, (and it isn't logical I don't think) it is life and death. For others, it's important but not THE be all and end all.

Have a good weekend gents, good luck for the rest of the season.

The Fear ,I agree it seems us 'cough cough' older fans seem to be the hardcore in modern football.Although I must say I have noticed a large number of young shavers supporting our club and other League 1 clubs.
I really don't get the 'gloryhunting' mentality, ie ,turn up for Barnsley title celebrations/City cup game etc,but that's just me.I support my team and that's it.

Nice article Fear. Sadly the exposure of the PL, which is wall to wall on Sky, means a lot of kids don't realise there is life outside the top 6 and it's a struggle to get them into grounds. Unless you happen to be playing one of them and the reality is they are there to watch the big stars rather than see their home town club competing against them. Even the older hands that do follow the club would rather listen on their local radio channel or I-follow than attend fixtures as the level of competition isn't enough for them. I'm glad you've realised there is life outside the PL - there is also life outside the Championship for that matter, though I fully understand you may not wish to experience it. The question is where will that leave the sport in 40 - 50 years when the current middle aged generation die off?

First half bleh, hoofball, no invention, second half great against a parked articulated lorry, we're winning this damn league, I said it all along

The atmosphere in the second half was good. I hope we see more of this next season. The support makes a big difference. Also, the 650 or so Wimbledon fans got behind their team well.

I thought Wimbledon were more motivated than us today and every credit to them for taking the point. From our perspective I thought we were poor, especially first half, though to mitigate that again I thought we looked tired. Pretty disappointing end to our home campaign in all honesty, though ensures there's a lot on next weeks fixture with a big away following. Full weeks rest now so I'm expecting a good finish to the season.

Quite a few sloppy passes today and not many passes were played for the receiver to run onto.
Vaughan did okay when he came on but would have like to have seen Cole.
But we got a point which sets it up for an amazing away day.
