Pass signs for Old Mother Shipton's Cave on the way to the North East but am a little puzzled as it has a red rose sign next to it. So, is it in Yorkshire or not I wonder?O - Old Mother Shipton's Well, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. A petrifying well so rich in sulphate and carbonate that objects hung in it get encrusted. Visited many years ago. Apparently there's Mother Shipton's Cave too but I never saw that.
It's definitely in Yorkshire, Caz but the sign you saw may have been in Lancashire. Mind you, main route to NE from Rotherham is M1, A1(M) which doesn't go near Lancs (I think)Pass signs for Old Mother Shipton's Cave on the way to the North East but am a little puzzled as it has a red rose sign next to it. I didn't know that but I used to love Pomfret cakes until GP told me they were bad for my high blood pressure. Apparently something in liquorice and pure liquorice sweets I used to buy online have health warnings on them!P PONTEFRACT in West Yorkshire - home of the Pontefract Cake or Pomfret cake as it was called when the town of Pontefract was called Pomfret.
It's a brown sign (like all info ones are) and it def has a red rose next to it - and, no, we were nowhere near Lancs. It's definitely in Yorkshire, Caz but the sign you saw may have been in Lancashire. Mind you, main route to NE from Rotherham is M1, A1(M) which doesn't go near Lancs (I think)

The things I do for you! Checked this and apparently the red rose is a recognised symbol of the Tourist Board and used throughout the country. Caused a big hoo-ha a while back when they put them on info signs in Bronte country. Salt liquorice is popular In some Europen countries. I bought some Belgian ones online but threw them away - horrible.I've never had it with salt or crusted though.
Is that Lavender's Tea Rooms? Not been in but think we had lunch in a pub there - can't remember name but right in the village.T THONTON-LE-DALE - near Pickering. When we'd been to Scarborough for a holiday or just the day we often came home via Thornton-le-Dale - used to be a very nice tea shop there. It's very pretty.
It could have been. Not been for many years to be honest. Is that Lavender's Tea Rooms? Not been in but think we had lunch in a pub there - can't remember name but right in the village.
