Any thing, place, person in or associated with Yorkshire.

A - Aire. A major river in the county. Starts at Malham Tarn, flows underground to Aire Head then passes through various towns including Skipton, Keighley and Leeds before its confluence with the Calder at Castleford.

B. Bradford. A City in Yorkshire. Football teams are Bradford City and Park Avenue. Rugby League team, Bradford Bulls. Used to be Speedway. But like too many others, Gone.

C CONISBROUGH - small town in South Yorkshire that has, what is thought to be, the oldest building in South Yorkshire in Conisbrough Castle which is talked about in Walter Scott's Ivanhoe.

Or C for Tony CHRISTIE who was born in Conisbrough.

I often visited the castle; didn't know TC was from there.

D - another river; Dearne. Flows through Barnsley, Wath Upon Dearne and Mexborough to its confluence with the Don at Denaby Main - where my sister-in-law was born and raised.

E ELLERTON - Three in Yorkshire - one in the East Riding, one near Catterick and one in Swaledale. Can't think I've been to any of them.

F - FILEY - a small traditional seaside town on the East Coast in North Yorkshire - my favourite seaside!

Also FLAMBOROUGH down the coast, just north of Bridlington.

G - Giggleswick. Lovely village near Settle in the Yorkshire Dales.

H HUMBER Bridge - in the East Riding of Yorkshire (not Humberside) and starts, I believe in HESSLE. Been under it and, by mistake, over it. It was opened in 1981 by Queen Elizabeth II.

I - "(On) Ilkley Moor Bar t'At" is a famous Yorkshire folk song. Ilkley Moor is an elevated area of moor between Ilkley and Keighley in West Yorkshire.

J JUMP - a village in Barnsley, not far from Hoyland.

K - KETTLEWELL - a pretty village in Wharfedale not far from Malham.

Sixty years ago I stood on a bridge over a little river at Kettlewell and watched trout swimming. Never been back but for some reason that scene sticks with me.

L - Leeds. City in West Yorkshire. My father came from Morley and my aunt lived on Devonshire Avenue near Roundhay Park in Leeds. Visited often as a boy.

Went past Leeds on the M1 just a couple of hours ago.

M MIDDLESBROUGH - still, as far as I am aware, is classed as North Yorkshire and not Teeside, and has been since the time of the Doomsday Book.

N - NORTHALLERTON capital of NORTH RIDING of Yorkshire (when there were such things!)
