Q QUEEN OF THE RAILS- song (1973) by Utah Phillips, US folk musician singer-songwriter, poet, trades union orgnaniser and IWW activist. Real name Bruce Duncan Phillips (1935-2008). Many of his songs relate to the US "railroads", rail workers, box-car hoboes, etc. Clip on YouTube.

Or, The Road. 2009 film starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee about a hopeless journey across a post-apocalypse landscape based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy.
 
S - Seven Years in Tibet. 1997 biographical film starring Brad Pitt and David Thewlis about two Austrians escaping from a British prisoner-of-war camp in the Himalayas and their journey across Tibet.

Or, Summer Holiday. 1963 song and film from Cliff Richard and The Shadows.

V - Death in Venice. 1971 film directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Dirk Bogarde about a composer who visits Venice for rest and recuperation and becomes obsessed by a young boy. Much of the soundtrack is from Mahler symphonies.
 
... or... VENTURA HIGHWAY - song by the US group America, about a road trip in California. Minor hit single - reached number 43 in the UK charts (1972). Faetures on the album "Homecoming". Quite like it. Clip on YouTube.

W WICHITA Lineman - well-known song, written by Jimmy Webb and recorded by many singers/bands. A hit single in the UK for Glen Campbell in 1968, which reached number 7 in the charts. Wichita is in Kansas, but Webb's inspiration for the song actually came from driving through Oklahoma. The song was highly rated by Bob Dylan.

Y - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Single and title track from the 1973 LP by Elton John. Bernie Taupin said the lyrics expressed the idea of a desire to return from the magic of Oz to the normality of the farm.
 
or... "YOU'LL never WALK alone" - originally a song from the popular 1945 musical "Carousel". A number one hit single in the UK for Merseybeat group Gerry and the Pacemakers (1963). Often sung at football grounds in various forms. Several other versions have made the UK singles top 30.

Z ZEBRA Dunn - song about a traveller from the city who meets up by chance with a gang of cowboys, out in the wilds. The stranger ends up riding on a zebra, and impresses the cowboys. Several recorded versions of the song e.g. by US folk singer-songwriter/storyteller Adam Miller (2012). Clip on YouTube
