This can be anything at all to do with the United States.

A Austin - is in Texas. I had a cousin who lived there once.

C Chalmette Battlefield - just outside of New Orleans to commemorate the Battle of New Orleans took place in the War of 1812 between American troops and the British.

D - Delaware, one of the smaller states in America but possibly as well-known for the song “What did Dela- ware boy” as anything else.

My Dad used to play the Perry Como version a lot on our record player! Not really one of my personal favourites though... :walkman:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E Eagles - Several species are native to the USA. The eagle has often been used as an image on civic buildings/ coins/banknotes/etc, in the USA.
Also the well-known band, still going from the 1970s - The Eagles :guitar:

F Flagstaff, Arizona - Mentioned by Chuck Berry as one of the towns on "Route 66". The song was written a long time ago (1950s)- they may have built the Flagstaff by-pass by now. ;)

Doesn't America have some funny capitals, places you've never heard of!

L Lincoln Memorial and/or Monument - across from each other in Washington

M Massachusetts - US state, it's capital is Boston (see previous entry). Name means "Great hill place". The BeeGees had a hit single named after it in 1968. Difficult name to spell correctly!

Q Queensboro' Bridge , New York -Rare for a bridge to have a well-known song written about it... but this one has, because it is also known as the 59th Street Bridge, and is celebrated by the "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" by Simon and Garfunkel. Queensboro' Bridge connects Manhattan to Long Island

Strangely enough, another R, Rotherham's Boston Castle folly links up several of the previous entries on this thread. It was built as a tribute to the original Boston "Tea Party", George Washington, and the campaign for American Independence from Britain.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S Southern California - it never rains there, according to the song written by Albert Hammond. Lots of people have recorded their own cover versions too. More topical than ever!

We were once on holiday with some Americans and firstly they were amazed that we'd not been invited to 'William and Kate's Wedding' - English so obviously 'must' have gone! And then they wanted to know which castle we lived near! So, we said 'Boston Castle' is at the other side of town to us. And we told them the story about the Tea Party and the connection. But all they were interested in was that we lived 'near a castle'!!!
