A - All Is Lost. 2013 film starring Robert Redford as a man adrift in a sinking boat. I enjoyed it. There's only one actor and hardly any dialogue but quite gripping.

B BLOW The Man Down - A sea shanty often sung in folk clubs. Heard many versions over the years.

C - On a Slow Boat to China. Song published by Frank Loesser in 1948 and recorded by many artists.

D DEEP as the sky, red as the SEA - book about a Chinese pirate queen written by Rita Chang-Eppig

E - The Eternal Sea. 1955 US biopic about Admiral John Hoskins starring Sterling Hayden and Dean jagger. Seen it a few times on TV.

F FOG On The TYNE - Lindisfarne song from the album of the same name. In 1990 the collaborated with Gazza with the song reaching number 2 in the UK charts.

G - Gray Lady Down. 1978 submarine disaster film starring Charlton Heston, David Carradine, Stacey Keach and Ned Beatty.

H HOMEWARD Bound - sea shanty about English sailors who have been away a long time returning back to England

I - In the Heart of the Sea. 2015 film about the true story of Moby Dick starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Brendan Gleeson and Cillian Murphy.

J JAWS - film from 1975 directed by Steven Spielberg about a shark in the sea.

K KING NEPTUNE - song by Australian-Russian post-hardcore /mathcore metal band, Galleons (2020). King Neptune was the Roman god of the sea.

L - LITTLE Mermaid. Such a sad book/film - as are many Disney children's films.

M - Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. 2003 film about a ship during the Napoleonic Wars starring Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany.

N (The) NAVY Lark -British comedy film (1959), which was based on the well-known BBC radio show. Starring Leslie Phillips, Ronald Shiner, Cecil Parker, Hattie Jacques . Only Leslie Phillips (who I once met) was from the original radio cast. Never seen the film. Clips on YouTube.

O (The) OLD Man and the SEA - film based on Ernest Hemingway's book of the same title starring Spencer Tracy. It was my Father-in-Laws favourite book.

P - The POSEIDON Adventure - thriller of a film released in 70s

Q - Assault on a Queen. 1966 film with Frank Sinatra about an attempt to rob an ocean liner.

T - I Saw Three Ships. Traditional English folk song dating from the 17th century. Recorded by many artists often on Christmas themed LPs.
