T TRIATHLON - where you swim, bike and run. Began in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The Brownlee Brothers from Yorkshire have two golds, a silver and a bronze between them. In the 2020 Olympics the mixed triathlon took place for the first time (played out in 2021) which Great Britain won.
 
V VICTORIA Pendleton - won gold for GB in cycling in the 2008 Olympics in both Sprint and Team Sprint. In 2012 she got gold in the Keirin and silver in the Sprint.
 
W - Water Polo. An Olympic sport for men since 1900, for women from 2000. Hungary is most successful country in the men's event and USA in women's but only Italy have won both.
 
Y - Yelena Isinbayeva. Russian pole vaulter won Olympic gold in 2004 and 2008. Considered by many to be greatest female pole vaulter of all time. Controversial in her support for Putin and strident anti-LBGT stance.
 
Z Emil ZATOPEK - won four gold medals. 1948 in the 10k in London where he also won a silver in the 5k and three in 1952 - 5km and 10km titles in Helsinki and the Marathon.
