A - Athens. The 1896 games held in Athens was the first international Olympic Games held in modern history.
 
B BASEBALL - made its debut in the 1900 Olympics in Paris but didn't become an official Olympic until 1992 in Barcelona. It was dropped after the 2008 games but came back in Tokyo in 2020. It isn't expected to be part of the Olympics again until 2028 in LA.
 
C - Coubertin, Pierre de (1863-1937). Co-founder of the International Olympic Committee and considered the father of the modern Olympic movement.
 
F - Fanny Blankers-Koen. Dutch track and field athlete known as 'The Flying Housewife' who won four gold medals at the 1948 London Olympics.
 
I - Ian Thorpe. Australian swimmer known as 'Thorpedo'. Won 3 gold and 2 silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
 
J JAVELIN - Steve Backley got 2 silvers and a bronze in this event for GB and in 1984 Tessa Sanderson got a gold while Fatima Whitbread has a silver and a bronze.

The record for the mens throw is 90.57m which was set by Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008 and the womens was set in 2004 by Osleidys Menendez who threw 71.53m.
 
K - KJT. Katarina Johnson-Thompson. British heptathlete, 2 times world and commonwealyh champion will be hoping to add Olympic gold this Summer.
 
L LINFORD Christie - sprinter who is the only British man to have won gold medals in the 100 metres at all four major competitions open to British athletes including the Olympics in Barcelona.
 
M - Mo Farah (Sir!) - British (born in Somali) long distance runner winning 10gold medals in Olympic and World Championship races.
 
N - Nadia Comaneci. Romanian gymnast and first to score a perfect 10. First did it as a 14 year old at the 1976 Olympics.
 
O OLYMPIC RINGS - now, I've seen, known as the Olympic symbol. The five rings represent the unity of the five continents with North and South America being one.
 
P - Pole Vault - although the men’s pole vault event has been part of the olympics since the beginning, a women’s pole vault event has only been included since 2000.
 
Q - I was a bit stumped here and could only come up with something I saw on a Google search - Quadrennial, which refers to the four year interval between games.
 
R RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS - first appeared in the Olympics in 1984 and for women. (not sure if men do it now?) The equipment includes ribbons, balls, ropes and hoops.
 
S - Shot Put. One of four Olympic throwing events. Men's competition has been in since the first modern games in 1896 while the women's event came in 1948.
