A-Z Of The Olympics

As the 2020 Olympics have just finished - I actually wish they'd just said 2021, would have been easier for me - let's have a go at this one! Can be anything from venues to events to mascots to participants from any era!


A Athletics - love watching the athletics

B Badminton - racquet and shuttlecock game, which is usually an Olympic event

C Cycling - we won a lot of medals in that this time

D Diving - GB won gold medals. Darts and dominoes could be in too... or maybe have pub Olympics

E - Equestrian Events (of which there are three)

F Football - It was essentially an under-23 competition this year. Men's Final was a few days ago : Brazil 2 Spain 1. Mexico won the bronze medal after beating Japan.

In the women's competition - Canada were champions (gold), Sweden silver, USA bronze

G - Great Expectations!
All the competitors have these, sadly most are not fulfilled.

H Hurdles - men's and women's events- 100m, 400m, etc, usually feature in the Olympic games

I Izzy the Alien was the 1996 mascot, the first computer generated mascot

J Jumps- "high", "long" and "triple". Also -show jumping. All normally feature in the Olympic games.

K Kayaking - think we got a bronze in the men's

L Lightweight rowing - men's and women's events in Japan 2020/1

M - Marathon - torture in the heat and humidity of this Olympics

N Netball - was one of the sports discussed for inclusion in the Japan games by the Olympic committee. In the end, it narrowly missed out. Might be in the next Olympics though.

O Oslo was a host city in 1952

P Pole vault - a regular feature of the Olympic games

Q - Qatar’s weightlifter won their first ever Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics

R Rowing - Quite a lot of GB success over the years in this event. Steve Redgrave won a gold medal in five consecutive Olympics!

S Swimming - something we usually do OK at

T - Triple Jump - Hop, skip and a jump!
