A-Z Of Songs With Animals Them

H - "(The) HIPPOPOTOMUS Song" by British musical comedy duo Flanders & Swann (1957). This was often played on the radio when I was a young child. Known by many as "Glorious Mud". From the style of the song , I assumed at the time (incorrectly) that it was from the 1940's, or even earlier. Good fun!

I IRON LION Zion - Bob Marley and the Wailers which was recorded in the mid-70's but not released until 1992. Got to number 5 in the UK singles chart and number 1 in the UK Airplay charts.
 
J - JOHNNY THE FOX meets Jimmy the Weed - Song by rock band Thin Lizzy. Features on their 1976 album, "Johnny the Fox". Clip on YouTube.
Saw Thin Lizzy play live, a couple of years before the song was written and recorded. They were very good.

N NEW HORSE- song by the US indie band, Slow Pulp. Opening track on their album "Moveys" (2020). A "shoegaze"-influenced song? Sounds a bit like the Pale Saints. Quite like it. Clip on YouTube.

P POSTMAN Pat And His Black and White CAT - the theme tune from the original Postman Pat series - not sure if it's the same for the newer version of the show.
 
Alternative "O... The OX - final track on The Who's debut album, "My Generation" (1965) . Clip on YouTube. Also the nickname of The Who bass player , John Entwistle, and the name of his own band. I never saw The Who play live , but I saw John Entwistle's Ox and they played the song. (y)


Alternative"P"... for a "double" - "(The) PiINK PANTHER Theme". Well-known jazz instrumental , composed Henry Mancini, which originally featured in the comedy film "The Pink Panther" (1963). It appears on the film soundtrack album. (y)

The Quagga is an extinct (late 1800s) subspecies of the plains zebra , and was native to Southern Africa.

R - Little Red Rooster (originally The Red Rooster). Blues standard first recorded in 1961 by Howlin' Wolf and later covered by others including Sam Cooke and The Rolling Stones. Videos of several versions on YouTube.
