F - Fame. Song released in 1980, performed by Irene Cara in her role in the film of the same name and later used as theme tune for TV series. Won an Oscar for best film song.
 
J JACK and Diane - 1982 song written and performed by John Mellencamp, originally from him American Fool album. Reached number 1 in Canada and the USA but only got to number 25 in the UK though it did get a silver disc.
 
K KITES - psychedelic pop classic from Simon Dupree and the Big Sound. Reached number 8 in the UK singles chart in 1967. The Shulman brothers, who featured on the recording, went on to form Gentle Giant, who I saw play live. (y)
 
N NIGHTS in white satin - well-known song by the Moody Blues. It featured on their album , "Days of future passed" (1967). First released as a single in 1967, and reached number 19 in the UK singles chart. It was re-released in 1972 and got to number 9 in the UK, and it has been a chart re-entry several times since.

R ROLL over Beethoven - originally a hit for Chuck Berry in the 1950's, the Electric Light Orchestra had a hit single with their cover version in 1973. It reached number 8 in the UK singles chart. There is longer version on their album, ELO 2.. (y)
