This can be anything at all to do with Saints - real or fiction - stories, books, music - anything at all!

A ALL Saints Day - celebrated on 1st November

B - Bernadette Soubirous, also known as Bernadette of Lourdes who in 1858 saw a lady who identified herself as the Immaculate Conception. Made a saint in 1933 and Lourdes is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of the Catholic faith.

C Saint CHRISTOPHER - the patron saint of travellers and children. He is often depicted carrying the Christ Child across a river.

D - Saint David. Patron saint of Wales. Bishop of Mynyw in the 6th century. I've visited the site of his original tomb (I think he was disinterred during the Reformation?) in St David's Cathedral.

G - St. GEORGE of England. Legend says he killed a dragon to stop people being sacrificed to the animal, after they ran out of sheep! The story was printed in the 1400s. St George became a special protector of the English after King Edward 111 made him patron saint of the Order of the garter.

H Saint HELENS - a town in Merseyside and had heavy industry and coal mining. A couple of it's famous employers being Beechams and Greenall's Brewery but is probably more known these days for the rugby league team.

I - Ignatius of Loyola. Basque Spanish Catholic priest and theologian who founded the Jesuits in 1541. Made a saint in 1922 as patron saint of spiritual retreats.

... Or IAN St. John (of the Cross). Long-serving Liverpool player of the 1960s. Later was a co-presenter of the TV football show "Saint and Greavsie". He played in a period when many wingers evolved into wide-midfield cloggers, and he was quite typical. Not quite as dirty as Terry Paine, but few players were!

J St JOHN's Road, Eastwood, Rotherham. Early childhood home of Mikemiller, regular poster on this website! Millers player Lol Morgan grew up nearby. FA Cup-winning manager Alan Ashman was also from that area.

L- Laurence O'Toole. 12th century Archbishop of Dublin, canonised 1225. First came across him when on holiday in his birthplace, Kilkea, County Kildare. Irish know him as Lorcan Ua Tuathail.

Yes - I think that it is still open (not today though because it's a Bank Holiday)

N St. NICHOLAS - also known as Santa Claus/ Father Christmas . Legendary character who brings gifts at Christmas. Believed to be based on a 4th century bishop. Often pictured on Christmas decorations, in a sleigh which is pulled by reindeer.

Just realised that I mised a sitter for "I" - Isla St Clair. TV and radio presenter, singer, etc. Probably best known for being co-presenter on the tv shov "The Generation Game" (1978-82) . Real name - not as many people believe "Clair St Isla", but "Isabella Margaret Dyce".

P St PAUL'S Cathedral in London - named for St Paul the Apostle, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and consecrated in 1697.
