Lindum

Vital Football Legend
Any word meaning a highway, eg road, avenue, street, lane etc. Any word in the title can be the A-Z

A - Avenues and Alleyways. Tony Christie song from the 1972 LP With Loving Feeling. Released as a single the following year and used as the theme for the TV series The Protectors.

...or... "Baker STREET" by Gerry Rafferty. Reached number 5 in the UK singles charts in 1978. (It's not about the London thoroughfare).

C Copperhead ROAD - Title track of US singer-songwriter Steve Earle's 1988 album. Clip on YouTube.

Or, C - 68 Carnaby Street. Track from the Band of Rain's 2021 LP, The Sun King. Video on YouTube. There are several different songs that mention Carnaby Street in the title. I saw Bill Oddie there once.

F FREEWAY Of Love - Aretha Franklin song from the mid-80's which got to number 1 in a couple of the US charts but didn't make the top 50 in the UK.
Freeway is a road designed for long-distance travel at high speed.

Been to Carnaby Street and Electric Avenue several times.
Once saw a very drunk Merv Hughes with Shane Warne, in the Red Lion pub, just around the corner from Carnaby Street.

Alternartive "C" - "Creeque ALLEY" by the Mamas and Papas (1967). Clip on YouTube.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Aternative "D" - Doubleback ALLEY" by Beatles-spoof band The Rutles. (1978). Think that I still have the Rutles film on video. (Clip on YouTube). Saw Rutles group member, Neil Innes play live once in Leeds- good fun!

Used to work in Great Marlborough Street. Drank mainly in the Hansel and Break For The Border by the Palladium but had the occasional lunch in the Red Lion.

Just realised that I missed a sitter for "A" - "A1 on the jukebox" , pop/rockabilly track by rock musician, singer and producer Dave Edmunds (1978). Got it on vinyl and also saw him perform it live.

Alternative "H" - "HIGHWAY to Hell", well-known hit single by rock band AC/DC. First released as a single in 1979, but has been re-released several times since. Reached number 4 in the UK singles chart in 2013.

...or "Jamaica ROAD" - smooth jazz instrumental track by IJO (2009) . Hmmm...nice!
Clip on YouTube

K King of the ROAD - Well-known song by US Country singer Roger Miller (1965). Reached number one in the UK singles charts .

Not to be confused with Roger Milla, Cameroon centre-forward. Famously, when he scored a goal in the World Cup, the tv commentator said "He'll be King of the Road in Cameroon tonight!"

... or.... "Life on the ROAD" by Welsh rock group Man (1972). Features on their album "Be good to yoursef at least once a day". Clip on YouTube. (y)

M MOTORWAY Madness - song by Irish rock band, Horslips (1989). Clip on YouTube.

I have that Horslips LP. Oddly I had thought I got it way back in the 1970s but see it only came out in 1989. Must be one of the last vinyl albums I bought.

Lindum - I have a couple of early Horslips albums on vinyl (not that track though). Got several Talking Heads albums too.

Alternative "N" - New STREET Blues" by Gerry Rafferty (again, see entry for "B"), from the album "Can I have my money back?" (1971). I have always found New Street staiton in Birmingham fairly depressing, but I don't think that the song is actually about that.

O On the ROAD again - Bluesy hit for US rock band , Canned Heat (1968). Reached number 8 in the UK singles chart .
