.. or ... This tune was composed by Spencer the Rover - "Spencer the Rover", traditional folk song, with many versions/variants of it, probably the most famous being the one recorded by John Martyn. Saw him perform it live - great rendition. Many people find it a very emotional song. Also Rotherham is mentioned in the lyrics, so it may have originated in South Yorkshire. Given his lifestyle ,I was never expecting him to last into old age. Great memories though. RIP JM
