A-Z of Favourite Songs.

O - O Sole Mio. Neapolitan song written in 1898 and recorded by many artists including Pavarotti. Elvis had new lyrics written for It's Now Or Never. The tune was famously used in a jingle for TV adverts for Cornetto ice cream.
 
Q - Surprisingly I like several songs with 'q' but am going for Que, Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) sung by the marvellous Doris Day in the 1956 film, The Man Who Knew Too Much. Won the Oscar for best song and reached No.1 in the UK charts.

S SORROW - David Bowie. Got into the top 3 in the UK in 1973.

Have to also mention SUMMER Holiday by Cliff Richard. Brought up on Cliff by my older sister and she took me to the pictures in Rotherham queuing up Ship Hill to see the film.
 
U UNDERWATER Moonlight - title track from album by Cambridge-based indie band, The Soft Boys (1980) . Clip on YouTube. The album was not much of a commercial success when released, but has since been cited as an influence by many UK and US bands.

V VENUS In Blue Jeans - sung by Jimmy Claxton in 1962 but also by Mark Wynter which my sister had a version of. I remember her playing it in her bedroom and I stood outside her door (wasn't allowed in!) listening to it.
 
X XANADU - Olivia Newton John and ELO released in the early 80's from the film of the same name. Got to number 1 in the UK. It was played on the radio a lot when I was in the early months of pregnancy with my second - often throwing up to it!
 
Z ... for a "treble" - ZOO de ZOO ZONG - 1971 single release from model/actress/ singer Twiggy (real name Lesley Hornby) & Friends. It was a 1920's-style pop song written by Cook and Greenaway. I remember it being played a lot on Radio Luxemburg at the time of release. Clip on YouTube.

The Rush song of the same title brings memories for me.
Last game of the 1978/79 season.
We travelled down to the Midlands on the Friday in a little white van (I was in the back).
Friday night - Rush concert at Stafford Bingley Hall
Saturday - Over to Nottingham to get tickets (not for me) for Forests European cup final .
We had our red n white scarves hanging out of the van windows which attracted a lot of attention from Notts County fans who were playing Stoke that day (red n white).
Derby 0 Boro 3, Derby fans not amused and invaded pitch at end, making a beeline for us in the side paddock!
Saturday night - Nottingham Boat club to watch Saxon , we ended the night drunkenly singing Boro songs in the concert place which didn't go down too well with the locals.
Ended up jumping on stage to escape their wrath and spent the early hours helping the group (Saxon) dismantling and packing away their equipment.
Sunday morning - nicked a crate full of bottles of milk from outside a shop that hadn't opened yet.
