As the football season is upon us let's go with this one - anything/anyone/anywhere to do with English Football

A Arsenal - one of the most known English clubs - have a cannon on their club badge to signify Royal Arsenal and Royal Artillery Regiment that was next to the club when it was founded in Woolwich.

B - Blackpool v Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road. 10 September 1960. ITV screened first ever live league football match. Afterwards ITV withdrew from the deal due to resistance from some clubs and a demand from the Football League for increased player appearance fees.

C Cardiff City.
Won the FACup in 1927, which I believe is the only time it's been won by a non English club.

Three years earlier they very, very nearly won the league title.
Lost out to Huddersfield by 0.024 of a goal (goal average).
If it had been goal difference (as now) they would've been champions.
They also missed a penalty that day - a goal which woul have given them a 1-0 win (and the title)

Interesting stuff, digger. Also it seems a bit odd that home and away games against most teams were played within a week. No idea why.

G - Goalkeeper. The English FA's first Laws of the Game in 1863 made no specific provision for GKs with any player allowed to catch or knock-on the ball. In 1870 handling the ball was forbidden for all players but the next year an amendment introduced the GK who could handle the ball 'in protection of his goal.' Since then there have been at least ten revisions of the GK's ability to handle the ball.

J - Jimmy Greaves - couldn’t we use a striker like him!! Scored a record six hat tricks for England and is the highest goalscorer, 357 goals, in the history of English top flight football!

K - Kettering Town FC. Only English club I could think of beginning with letter K. The Northamptonshire club is currently in the Southern League Premier Division. Formed in 1872 it was supposedly the first club to wear sponsorship on their shirts in 1976.

L - LEEDS UNITED - once famous throughout Europe, now playing Championship football. Been to several great games when the Millers have played them. If you are watching the game on tv in a pub in England, the customers will be cheering on the Millers (unless you are watching in Leeds). :p

Was on the Tivoli at a packed Millmoor for the 1971 FA Cup 0:0 game. Watched the replay highlights on TV. Lost 3:2. Robbed. Leeds got their comeuppance in the next round though losing 3:2 to mighty Colchester!
