When I first heard that I didn't realise it was the Beach Boys - sounded like some Barber's Shop quartet.

I have heard it sung by a Barber shop choir at a folk club.

Haha! Having looked into this it turns out the Beach Boys based their arrangement of the song on a 1961 version by The Four Freshmen who were a vocal quartet that sang in the barber shop tradition.

V VIBRANT - a word you can associate with the colours that are now starting to appear in the garden

W - Whitsuntide. Late Spring festival following the seventh Sunday after Easter. Whit Monday was a holiday from the Middle Ages until 1972 when it was replaced by Spring Bank Holiday. In towns up here you still get parades called Whit Walks and there used to be Whit Fairs.
