A-Z Birds in Song and Film.

S - Sparrows Can't Sing. 1963 British comedy drama film starring Barbara Windsor and James Booth. Used to be shown on the TV many years ago but haven't seen it in over 50 years.

W "(The) WILD GEESE" - action film about a group of aging mercenaries who are hired to rescue a deposed African president. (Dir. Andrew V. McLagen, 1978). Starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris and Hardy Kruger.

Y YELLOW BIRD - I always thought was a song sang by the Sandpipers - but can't find it anywhere. Although in the early 60's Lawrence Welk and His Orchestra had it on an album.

I once had a yellow bird cocktail - it had rum and lime in it.

The Mills Brothers had a hit with it but I think my favourite version is by Kingston Trio;

Only song by The Sandpipers I remember was Guantanamera.

Mike, have you got a link for the hummingbird track. I had a vague idea there was a track of that name but when I searched I could only find videos of the bird singing!

Hummingbird track - just found it on YouTube. Go to Google, type in Xantus's Hummingbird by Flowerhouse. (I made slight mistake in the original spelling- apologies).
