Blackpool Football Club is delighted to announce the appointments of Tommy Johnson and Jonathan Gibson to enhance the club’s recruitment and scouting operation.

A treble winner with Celtic, Tommy Johnson joins the club as Head of Recruitment, having had a distinguished 19-year playing career that also included two promotions with Notts County, a League Cup triumph with Aston Villa and seven caps for England at under-21 level.

He moved into coaching with Notts County in 2007, prior to joining Leicester City as Chief Scout and then the Northern Ireland under-17 and under-21 setups as assistant manager.

Since then, the 48-year-old has held senior scouting and recruitment positions at Championship and Premier League level with Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers, Watford and Nottingham Forest.

Jonathan Gibson, meanwhile, takes up the position of Head of Technical Scouting following 10 years with West Bromwich Albion, six of which were spent as the Baggies’ Recruitment Manager and the other four as the club’s Head of Performance Analysis.

Owner Simon Sadler said:

“I am pleased to welcome both Tommy and Jonathan to the club in what are very defined recruitment and scouting roles.

“From the outset, I have made clear that I want this to be a modern, progressive football club and I believe that, alongside the football expertise of our new CEO Ben Mansford, these appointments will form a structured recruitment setup that will support the manager and enable us to identify, monitor and sign players for the long-term.”

Club Aims To Enhance Matchday Experience With Supporter Flags

Large

Blackpool Football Club is encouraging supporters to help enhance the matchday experience at Bloomfield Road by displaying flags across the stadium.
Creating a vibrant and colourful backdrop, the flags will add to the special atmosphere and identity inside the ground and reiterate the club’s commitment to fan engagement.
Supporters who wish to display flags at the stadium are kindly asked to bring them to the main reception during the office hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Please supply your name, contact details and stand preference (North or South) for your flag when dropping it in to the club.

The flags must be fire retardant and have a relevant fire safety certificate. Unfortunately, without such certification, the club will be unable to display them. The flags are to be either gifted or loaned to BFC for the season and must not contain any political, defamatory or offensive language, or advertise any websites or commercial entity.
Please note: maximum size for flag submissions is 20ft x 8ft.
The club will look to facilitate flags in specific areas requested, though reserves the right to relocate or return the flags if the club deems this necessary. The club also takes no liability whatsoever, on an irrevocable basis, for any loss or damage to any flag.

The Community Trust's new education and community facility officially opens on Saturday

Simon Sadler is to officially open Blackpool FC Community Trust's new £411,390 education and community centre at Bloomfield Road.

Sadler will cut the ribbon of the state-of-the-art facility at 1pm on Saturday prior to Blackpool's game against Fleetwood Town, and supporters are being invited to attend.

The centre is based on the site of the cold club shop and ticket office in the North West corner of Bloomfield Road.

It has since been transformed into an education and community centre, which includes four tailor-made classrooms, a family and game zone, community gym and a physical activity space.
The facility has been developed with £286,000 funding from the Premier League and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, through the Football Foundation and a further £125,000 from the Community Trust itself.

The Trust has been given a 25-year lease on the area.
The facility will be used to host Blackpool FC Sports College, home to the Trusts BTEC Education, Degree and Traineeship courses, as well as community-based activity, including sporting memories, veterans’ social groups and Premier League Kicks.

Fans are being encouraged to attend the launch on Saturday and explore activities such as a Panna cage (for 1v1 football), table tennis, arts and crafts and FIFA20 on Xbox's and PlayStations.
The Trust will also be manning a food donation drop-off point to support Blackpool Food Bank.
The Trust said: "It is really important that we support this worthwhile cause in our town to make sure that no local residents go hungry during the festive period.
"Please bring along any donations, every single item helps."

Items to be donated can include: longlife milk, tinned soup, meat, fish, pies, vegetables and fruit, cereal, rice, pasta, teabags and diluted squash.

Well the 'branding' I hinted at wasn't quite what I expected:
Backing Blackpool
New Campaign Launched To Officially Mark Exciting New Era

Blackpool Football Club is officially kicking off its exciting new era by rolling out a campaign that centres around ‘Backing Blackpool’.
The campaign, which will step up the club’s efforts to re-connect with fans, businesses and the wider community, comes just six months after owner Simon Sadler completed a takeover at Bloomfield Road.
Incorporating some much-loved aspects of the club’s heritage, ‘Backing Blackpool’ will become part of the club’s long-term brand, using the signature tangerine and white colours, as well as navy blue.

The campaign also adopts the popular ‘Tower Power’ logo from the late-70s and 80s, which currently features on the back of the club’s home and away shirts. This will be a sub-brand to the main crest, incorporating the club’s nickname of ‘The Seasiders’.
The campaign will feature across the club’s digital assets from today, including the official club website and social media channels, and will begin to be rolled out across Bloomfield Road ahead of this weekend’s game against Fylde Coast neighbours Fleetwood Town.
It will also be seen on t-shirts, club merchandise and a range of other fan and business facing assets, allowing people to proudly show their support for the club.
Ben Mansford, Blackpool FC CEO, said:
“This campaign marks an exciting new time in the club’s history. The most overriding objective of everyone at the club is to make the local community proud again. Backing Blackpool is a part of our long-term strategy to achieve that objective. We will only be able to succeed on and off the pitch if we truly engage with supporters and stakeholders, as well as come together as one. Simon Sadler is Backing Blackpool and so are so many around the town. I hope through Backing Blackpool we will be able to continue to reach out to our core and lapsed supporters, as well as attract new supporters to the club. UTMP!”
