A missed Opportunity - Berahino..

Spursex

Alert Team
So he's off to Stoke for £12 mill or so, supposedly half what we offered (in staged/performance payments)...

Have we made a mistake or dodged a bullet?

I'd have to say his conduct since failing to join us makes me feel I was right that neither his skillset or his temperament was good enough for us - I' m relieved we didn't go back in for him...

I wonder who here now thinks we should have?

p.s. I wish him well as I do any young English striker, but he's really going to have to Listen to Sparky to improve and show he has what it takes now.

We'll never know now how he would have done if we'd have got him 18 months ago.

Neither his club nor himself have come out of this well, the club have lost money and he has done so little in 18 month that all he has got now is a move sideways, Stoke/WBA, not much difference is there?

WBA really fucked that whole thing up lol. They rejected double that from us and the guy has hardly played since. We need better, we are a top team now.

For a few million he would have been worth the gamble but not at that price. Madness what teams pay for someone who has little time left on a contract.

I agree with how WBA handled it. If top clubs can pick and choose the best players from mid table clubs, you'd have a less competitive and less fair league. Ok so they lost £12m, they've made an example that they're a/ not a selling club and b/ won't tolerate insubordinate behavior

have they though? The owner who wanted to make that point left, doubt the next player would look at Berahino as an example of what not to do if a move they wanted came knocking. Off on strike they'd go...

Chairman and organization is the same. Doubt they will take a weaker stance with regard to selling players being an up and coming club now presumably a lot richer. Berahino was offloaded because he was a toxic asset with a few months left on his contract.

I disagree that players or rather their agents, won't take notice of what happened with him. In the end, look at the club and look at him. Club's doing well and he's off to Stoke.

Most importantly, we avoided signing another Adebayor so let's count our blessings and move on.

Well it's revealed today that he was banned from play at West Brom after he failed a drugs test - for 'social' drugs.

It again supports what many of us knew and argued about - he's not capable of making the best of his talents and is another who's got too much, too soon.

Agree ex, I was all for him and do think he's a good talent that could be another Defoe but I can see him messing it all up.

There was always more to him not playing, Pulis is not stupid, he would play someone that would improve the team.

He will be floating around the Championship in a couple of seasons.

I'm getting older, I blame that :21:

What a rotter. Waste, he has some talents.

I'm presuming Poch knew this hence why we never went back in for him.

As we don't know the bloke we can't really say what his personality is like or how he would have knuckled down if he had come to us. He was most likely badly advised at the time and certainly seemed a bit immature, and then he sacked his agent who had 'masterminded' the fiasco.

He has got a lot of talent, and it needs to be chanelled. I thought at the time that he was just what we needed in football terms, but things move on. In an ideal workd he could still do what we need, as he can unlock defenses when he feels like it. Hughes may well be the bloke to sort him out.

He is a privileged individual having the opportunity to play football at the highest level ...he is a wank*r for wasting the opportunity by his petulence....he appears to be only interested in the dosh....else why choose NOT to train, get fit, and show the attitude to enable pullis to pick him.....Hughes wont change this type of mindset....glad we avoided getting him.
