A huge blow for Jed Steer...

what a shame.... must be such a frustrating position being the back up keeper but he has looked commanding in the cup games.

Suppose all eyes are on if we sign Johnstone permanently, if not... maybe a fit Jed would get his chance?

I think Jed Steer is an excellent prospect and has developed significantly in the past 18 months. His performances when required have been top notch and he's a more than adequate deputy as long as Johnstone is here.

Ideally, we'd sign Sam permanently (and he would be an idiot not to, imho) but if he gets his head turned by someone like Palace or Smethwick good luck to him. Steer would be just fine if he became our number one.

I think if we sign Johnstone permanently then Jed will be on his way (when fit). He’s a few years older than Sam and won’t be content as a backup with little prospect of becoming the starter.
Good goalkeeper and with age on his side he’ll be a number one somewhere for sure. Generally, back-up goalkeepers are either too young to be starters or older and “not quite good enough.”

Have to agree, thought - despite the scoreline - he pulled off some amazing saves v Posh

Maybe Jed has a bit more to learn, but then so had Johnstone. Think we have a very good goalkeeping coach so, based of what we've seen so far, think he'll get there. Bad luck on him getting the injury, but I'd be happy for him to be given a shot if Johnstone moves on.
