I was listening to the news update this morning about the tragic accident in south America that has wiped out the Chapecoense football team, so reminicent of the 1958 Munich air disaster that wiped out the "Busby Babes" of Manchester United.

On hearing some of the details it occured to me that this has all the plot details to make it of interest to the tin foil hat brigade, details like the 'keeper being pulled out alive and well enough to phone home to let his family know that he was ok only for him to later die in hospital, and the fact that the owners son (the Mirror has it that it was the head coach's son) was due to be on board only for him to miss the flight as he'd forgotten his passport, add to this the fact that this happened in Columbia, arguably one of the most corrupt and violent societys in the world due to the power of the drug lords and cartels and I think we have the ingredients of a classic conspiracy theory.

So far I've not heard or read anything but it really is a bit early, itt'll take the theorists time to come up with something they consider plausible and they will probably wait until, at least, initial findings of the accident investigation team are published.

"The plot thickens", It turns out that the owner of the airline was also the pilot on this occasion too.

I'm not suggesting for one minute that this is anything other than a tragic accident but I do see how these coinspiracies scan start. Thoughts?

Love how people call them the tin foil hat brigade

Question EVERYTHING cos we are constantly being lied to

As you thought of this 1st VOTN I'd like to officially award you a Baco Foil Hat shaped like a pork pie

:14:

Tin foil hat people do really exist though and they do have a paranoia that leads them to believe in some of the strangest conspiracies. I thought it was just a joke until I met a woman last year who always wears a hat, inddors and out, regardless of the weather - she has lined it with foil......

The extreme conspiracy theorists will always look for something in a big news story like this.

I always question events that seem to have a beneficiary at the end, but in a case like this who benefits? Who's agenda does downing a plane with a football team on board further?

It could be any number of things, the pilot was the owner of the airline, perhaps someone wanted him dead....something to do with drug trafficing. It could be a betting thing, illegal bookies can work in the multimillion bracket and being the Brazillian "Leicester" they will have been heavily backed. I really have no idea but motive is not hard to find.

This makes me sound like a conspiracy believer and I'm not, it just struck me as the sort of story, especially given some of the details, that would be heavily speculated about.

Those reasons are certainly plausible but without thorough scientific investigation I cannot for a second believe any of them

:p

Yeah, it's amazing that in this day and age that kind of check could be missed.

It was a private charter though so guess the checks aren't as stringent as a commercial flight, but even so it seems incomprehensible that you wouldn't check the fuel gauge before sitting in a big metal box in the sky.
