THEY are the forgotten heroes of the trenches, the brave men who gave their lives to the Empire but whose names have been erased from the history books.

More than 400,000 Muslim soldiers fought in World War One , yet a recent survey by British Future, a think-tank dedicated to racial integration, has revealed that only 22 per cent of people know of their sacrifice.

And only a pitiful two per cent are aware of the scale of that sacrifice.

Now British Future project co-ordinator Avaes Mohammed is overseeing a scheme to educate Birmingham children about the part Muslims from India played in the Great War.

They also fought in the SS which is something even more people probably don't know about

Yeah, that's why it was called World War Two. Because it took a good chunk of the world to join arms to defeat the Nazis and the Nips who were allowed to build up their 'reserves', navy, military might while the likes of France and Britain turned a blind eye.

There was of course Indians, Aussies and Kiwis fighting along with our Chindits in South East Asia as was the Yanks after they were finally compelled to eventually join in after Pearl Harbour.

Interesting read and never heard of this i heard about India helping etc but not specific muslims always wondered about that part of the world and what went on WW2 tbh, good read, i think if the world didn't unite it would have been a different story for us all in every country.

At that point India was part of the British Empire and as such, automatically involved in both wars. Pakistan did not exist as a country, it was all India and as such, a large part of the Indian population was Muslim. Given these two points, it stands to reason that Muslims, Sihks and Hindus were all involved, add to this the fact that the Levante and North Africa regions were mainly under British or French control, it becomes even more pertinant to pressume the involvement of Muslims in both wars.

What we currently think of at the Middle East, North Africa and Indian sub-continent was not really recognisable then in comparison, it was basically mainly British Empire and French Empire (if that's what they called it)

WOW i never realised or knew that VOTN dude, amazing India must have been absolute massive, so then the middle east is really quite young in todays country borders etc......cheers man i never knew

Amazing how the world can pull together when we need to ay it yet when we don't we kill each other lol

Yes our wonderfully, insightful politicians created Iraq after WWI. They carved up Kurdistan and spread it over Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Later formed Palestine. And still keep meddling because of oil.
And how many Muslims and Indians fought on the side of the Japanese in WWII?

Yup, total mess created by our - as you say - insightful politicians.

We created a monster but looking on the bright side FOR THEM not us, they've made a fortune selling weapons to arm them and weapons to then fight them!
