I suppose the "accused" bit is important.

He's contesting it probably and according to our system of justice you are innocent until proved - unlike a red card.

You'd imagine his mind wouldn't be focused on the task though so I'd be surprised if he's picked by Advocat. The opposition fans will have a few chants ready as well.

You beat me to it, CB. I was going to point out the law of the land is you are innocent until proven guilty, so their hands are tied really.

I find it immensely distasteful that Sunderland would even consider playing Johnson with a charge like this hanging over him. He may or may not be guilty (that's what trials are for, and for now he must be presumed innocent) - but to allow someone accused of having sex with a child to play in front of the TV cameras, not to mention the children in the crowd only days after the charge is not going to paint either the club or the Premier League in a good light.

IMO, Sunderland should simply have refused to pick him for the remainder of the season, the fact they are doing so is purely down to the fact that they'll lose so much money if they're relegated.

I'm disgusted that he's playing.

Welcome back Philly. Not seen you for a while. Hope all is well.

He's not admitted he's guilty of statutory rape. I don't know enough about the Law in that area to comment. It might be a defence if the girl looks older than she is and a reasonable person would have thought she was over 16 and maybe she said she was older. Then again it might not. Anyway, he's going to Court which means he's fighting it so he's admitted 'jack sh*t' from a purely legal perspective.
