The Chopper is back and yours for the (not so) bargain price of £250.

Feast your eyes on this ultimate comeback: The Chopper reborn.

Raleigh has re-released the iconic bike – with its padded backrest, mismatched wheels and ape-hanger handlebars.

The 1970s British classic has been brought back by popular demand from nostalgic parents, say Halfords.

Great bikes of the time but only the rich kids got them I had to make my own bikes with bits from here there and everywhere the canal was always a good place to start.

And remember the cow horn handlebars as well!? Lol

And didn't the poor kids usually end up with the grifter !?

I had a purple mark 2 hand-me-down from my cousin. It was really heavy and slow and the gears didn't work but I loved it.

Yeah the grifter was a cheaper version but it was for younger kids it was smaller than the chopper. The cow horns was probably the only thing I bought for a bike with my birthday money lol.Maybe rough living but in them days you did learn certain skills sadly the kids today wouldn't have a clue how to build a bike saying that most probably don't even know how to ride a bugger.

I had a Pantha, it was the Dawes version of the Chopper. Does that make me poor or posh?

To be fair that's a skill I'm not interested in learning :10:

How much is a normal bike these days? The last lad I knew who bought a bike spent five grand on his. He was into mountain bike racing.

Well been looking for my kids who am nearly 3 and 4 now and they am about £50/80 GULP so McGrath knows how much the bigger ones am, my Raleigh Activvator 2 with syuspension on the back in the early 90's back then cost over £200 i remember so must be at least £500 for a decent one?

If you shop around a bike that will do for day to day use for most people is about £100-£150 but if you want to be a hobbiest yhe sky is the limit, I reckon you are looking £300 minimum for an entry level bike at that level. It all depends on your usage.

Yeah there is cheap ones about but bet they don't last long, Raleigh used to be the best in my era don't know what is the best name now, last time i rmemeber years back was something like MuddyFox or something similar lol

Cheap bikes are fine for Joe average taking the odd ride out on a Sunday. If you look after them they will last for years.
