2026 World Cup Thread

Social racism happens everywhere. Indio, mestizo and state sponsored racism is something else. When driven by politics it is at another level. This is a different problem. Reports of the Egypt and Cape Verde games of overt racism were high. Organised. Premeditated.
 
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse.

The daily mail has reported that Infantino has sent a letter to the Argentinian FA congratulating them on their professionalism during the World Cup. In 2030 the World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. To commemorate 100 years of the World Cup countries like Argentina and Uruguay will host a game each and therefore they will automatically get a spot in the World Cup.

Infantinos sycophancy knows no limits and turns my stomach.
 
Infantino to set up a company that runs World Cup and sell off a 30% stake. FIFA members get a stake. World Cup becomes bigger in numbers, 64 quoted. Possibly more frequent cutting across club football. He has already discussed the Trump family buying a %. This man is a megalomaniac. UEFA and club football needs to stand firm.

People need to step outside their little world and realize that Infantino, as corrupt as he is, is MASSIVELY popular in the rest of the world and its only European fans that don't like him.

He is popular because he has increased entry from 32 to 46 to supposedly 64 so minnows who have an equivalent vote as France, Germany, Brazil etc vote for it and extra money. Most of those players are paid daily by their clubs. If clubs find players are absent, injured and tired why should they release them. The clubs have nurtured these players from a young age, trained them, paid bills and pay them handsomely. This last World Cup players were in squads for two months. Some clocked up over 2000 miles in travel not counting getting to America. I for one will be glad when club football recommences.

It isn’t just the current situation, as bad as it is. It’s the direction of travel. 64 is nearly half the nations in the UN. Injuries to the best players in the world rob the rest of us of the entertainment that is being paid for EVERY GAME. Last World Cup took a month, giving players about a month to recover. All this so that, that already rich megalomaniac can trouser even more cash. There is no realistic challenge to infantinos overbearing dominance, so he continues to “push the envelope “. If we don’t stop this incessant destruction of our game, it will demonstrate tacit approval of infantino’s infantile power games.

When I speak of direction of travel, it seems clear that he is trying to create the football equivalent of the Olympic Games where every nation gets to participate in the finals. The trouble with that is when you pay for your season ticket, you are paying to see the best players who are fully fit and refreshed after a summer break. Your entertainment is being degraded by this control freak’s insatiable appetite for lining his own pockets. Football is being taken away from the masses and given to the people who don’t think twice about paying £10,000’s to watch this “football festival “. Ordinary people are being robbed of their game.

One final thought, most of African and Asias players play in Europe and you can add to that list, Brazil, Argentina and Columbia etc. So national FAs in Morocco, Japan and Brazil have nothing to lose by these proposals and everything to gain. Quantity doesn’t necessarily develop quality.

Imo boycott is a genuine possibility. Think most of us in europe have had enough of fifa. Fifa should be below the regional organisations. At least uefa have some level of democratic accountability (albeit weak), fifa has none.
 
CONCACAF rejecting it outright as well. Several other confederations are not happy. Much like the Super League, this one is dead in the water. Not surprised though, because Infantino lives in the same delusional bubble akin to Trump, where he is so out of touch with reality that he thinks throwing any old shit against a wall is a great idea.

His position is now absolutely untenable, if it wasn't already.

Correct.

He has more than enough support from all of the smaller countries that gain the most from his actions.

The main opposition now is from the Federations, but come the crunch votes on his tenure, the Countries vote independently.

Nope. It's dead in the water. Without UEFA they have nothing. UEFA would not gave played this high a card unless they absolutely knew it would kill this thing dead.

Unless he backtracks or makes massive concessions, then he is finished.
