2026 Summer Transfer Window Thread

I wonder when it was fans started thinking they could demand specific things of the club during a transfer window.

I know it wasn't always like this.

Is it a consequence of Sky televising every little thing and making huge deals out of stuff like deadline days? Is it the transfer window itself as a concept and the fact that people are so bored all Summer they've got nothing to obsess about but the makeup of the squad?

I do get that fans are a more important part of the club than anyone who just happens to be running operations right this second, but at the same time I think the 'parlance of our time' would say 'just let them cook'

We're a player short of where Glasner seemed to think we would be. That's not a big deal tbh.

I think you're right about Sky and the dramatisation of transfers/deadline day.

We're at a point where lots of fans just want the dopamine hit from seeing their club sign a player. Doesn't actually matter whether they're any good or if its a player the club needs, just sign someone...anyone.

I would give the window a 7/10. We are one CM away from it being an 8/10, and if we had managed to get Henderson, that could have been a 10/10.

The positives are keeping Williams, MGW. The lack of a CM will give more chances to McAtee, Schlager and likely Dom to have a 16 game trial until January.

We will see Cunha and Diomande have plenty of minutes also, and Delap now has the starting shirt.

Hoping that Ndoye, Kali, and Jesus make the most of their chances alongside MGW.

Future thoughts - Sels and John will be need replacing by this time next year. We will need that top CM signing, maybe January, or at least cover or a top prospect here.

Worries - Will MGW and Williams be here next Summer? What are we going to do with CHO

12TH-15TH finish for us as it stands. Maybe top 10 if we can hang around 12/13th until January and add that one or 2 we need (CM, CB cover, maybe GK)

That was my thought. Usually you overpay in January but some teams <cough> Spuds <cough> desperately need a couple of sales and everyone knows it.

I think a lot will depend on where we are in the league and what issues we have. We may well be more likely to spend if we are in or around the Europe places rather than if we are in the realms of mid-table obscurity.

Chelsea have a net spend this window of minus 100m..!! Gets even better if those mugs at Spurs pay 75m for Mudryk

No idea what the wilful dissonant said, as he’s on ignore - but I can pretty much guess. We are shit, the players are shit we’re going to be relegated. That cover it ?

Nah he's not been that bad but he's obviously frustrated and suggested its that the club didn't have a plan or doesn't know what they are doing.

Sky feel they are quite entitled to dramatise events around football, after all in their eyes they did invent football when they were instrumental in forming the PL

Spurs can survive a year with this level of expenditure but if by Jan champions League is not a strong potential then recouping some funds will be a priority. There will be some disgruntled if not disruptive players sitting out some games. If they do get Europe they will need to sell to hit UEFA rules and ratios.

That stadium generates so much revenue, that I would be very surprised if they have to make any drastic sales at all.

I am far more puzzled on how Chelsea manage this with their stadium, but their player sales seem to prop them up

They need to sell because they are going to have some unhappy players and because they need to get in line for Europe.

They also still have a bit of work to do with the squad, not to mention having to pay for Marmoush.
 
So do we all agree that Palace and Everton will struggle this season? Newcastle Fulham and Villa will be in transition and a bit up and down. The three promoted sides, despite spending between £130m and £190 m each will struggle? Sunderland, Brentford and Bournemouth being in Europe will struggle with two games a week and will start to wain by October.? Similarly Man Utd with CL will start to show inconsistencies. Spurs will have disgruntled squad and need to sell in Jan.

Hull have something like 35 players. That's going to very interesting....
