2026 Summer Transfer Window Thread

4 weeks of the transfer window to go, which is ok

6 weeks basically squandered, which is not

The problem being that we have taken as long to get nowhere with our main targets as there is still to go in the window

Many players are only going to get more expensive from here. The odd one may come down in price but generally (as Spurs found with Johnson) it gets higher later.

We've walked away from both Read and Diomande. Fine. People already celebrating us doing that.

But these were first choice. The best available to us.

Anyone we go for after this is by nature considered by the club to be a weaker player- or we would have gone for them from the start.

We are not in a position of absolutely needing someone. That is where you would happily cycle through second and third choice.

We'll have to take second or third best at wingback and essentially make do with what we have as first choice.

I am skeptical that we will sign a proper quality replacement for Anderson at all and currently see no evidence we are even pursuing one

Fuck knows if a striker is even on the agenda at all, but at a month to even fail, that doesn't look great.

But this is the crucial moment. Today is an awful day, a real setback.

But it's also the point where a club can still recover the window and do well

Or it's the point where, if they handle the rest of the time badly, it can hamstring the club for years to come
 
As I said just over 1 hour ago before we had the latest daily Diomande I just hope Glasner is OK with all this messing about over transfers otherwise he might start getting as fed up as we are & say something EM doesn't like

The Read one is more understandable from the outside looking in. The fee just kept climbing and we can’t be sure that he was number one choice because there is also Khalaili who to me looks the better player.

With Diomande it’s not so clear cut. Sporting have bought his replacement and there don’t look to be any other suitors. Were we being stubborn? Were they? Was it both? Either way there’s only so long you can bang your head against a brick wall before you realise it’s time to move on.
 
This is getting ridiculous now! Wtf is going on here? To get nothing over the line is beyond understanding and very frustrating. I presume Glasner won’t be happy with this

I just hope we are not playing hardball for the sake of a Couple of million. When Glasner was appointed, we were given to believe he would have a say on recruitment. I really hope he’s in the loop with what’s going on.
 
So how many man hours did we 'waste' on Diomande (assuming that twitter post is correct, but AFAIK that account posts as much utter bullshit as it does accurate info)?

I can't even begin to imagine what people think is happening when we are negotiating a transfer. Do we send a contingent of 30 of our best people to go stay in Portugal for a month to try and get it done, or is it some emails with maybe one or two face to face conversations?

Its funny to me to see people getting so wound up about shit they know absolutely nothing about that probably isn't true in the first place.

Transfer windows are bullshit.

While I have seen plenty of posts saying a transfer has been done when it hasn't, I have yet to see one of these posts saying a transfer has collapsed be wrong

That doesn't mean it can't be revived, but in my memory, even when one of these dodgies reports a collapse from an overseas source, it's usually correct at the time.

No point lecturing people about being disappointed and frustrated. It would be bizarre it people felt anything else at this stage

Sporting are notoriously difficult and what we have experienced so far is nothing compared to what United and Arsenal endured

The whole "deal has fallen through, serious disagreement between hierarchies" or whatever is always so dramatic too. Like they've ended up with a slanging match or in a Tesco car park. If negotiations were so far apart it's burned all bridges on the potential transfer then the talks wouldn't have progressed this far. You'd think it translates to "they've hit an impasse where neither party will budge - YET".

I guess this is true.

Overall signing 1 first team player at this point isn't great.

But again, I don't think people should be getting invested in what Twitter says about the club is doing in the first place, let alone getting angry when the thing Twitter said we are doing doesn't happen.

I'll keep saying it, transfer windows are bullshit.

People can't be blamed for following the rumours as if they are football matches, its what happens when there's no actual football to watch, but they are all rumours and talk and whether or not they bear any relation to the actual reality of what's happening at the club is just a guess.

New manager and trying to keep mgw from leaving and we run our transfers like a pub raffle.

Thats fair obviously, but ultimately we haven't signed anyone other than a low risk free and it's 6th August.

I don't think we have ever gone anywhere near this late into a window without landing a target or some significant activity.

We do absolutely diabolically with only 4 weeks to get business done in a January window.

Well, that's what we have now!

Let's put that one to bed.

The club does not organise any kit and I'm not sure why anyone believes they do

We have a contract with Adidas.

We don't have a partnership with a kit designer and manufacturer to then design and manufacture it ourselves.

Adidas do all of that.

Maybe we have delayed a decision about what template to go with, but that's a pure guess and there is no reason why we would have

No idea why people think it's the club organising the supply of kit rather than the actual kit supplier
