2026 Summer Transfer Window Thread

16th or 17th but I'm hoping I'm wrong.
I'd take 12th just for a stress free season.
If we finish 16th or 17th without European football, we and I mean, Glasner will have failed.
We will have another manager if we are in those positions come Christmas.

EM has invested heavily in Glasner and I hope that he gives Glasner time. We won't be perfect and as we are seeing atm, it's difficult for us to close deals on better players.

Glasner needs time and 3 plus transfer windows to create the squad he wants.

He was signed for £46m last season and hasn’t increased his value. A bid of £40m still represents a PSR neutral deal for them and reflects that he hasn’t increased that value

Maybe add ons for 100 appearances, a cup, euro qualifying can get the fee to £45 and their money back

No way we should go to £55m
He hasn't increased in value but the market as a whole has inflated massively - so they could argue that paying £55m for him is more a reflection of that.

Inclined to agree but only as and when we have brought players in.

As it stands, EM has invested massively in terms of Glasner's wages but hasn't really backed him at all.

In the unlikely event that all we end up with is Schlager on a free, that would represent a catastrophically bad window after losing Ando.

And similarly, if we wait until deadline day and end up with 5 plan Cs through the door last minute - honestly, not sure if that's much better...

That's what I meant by investing in Glasner. His wages are huge. Unfortunately, that means EM will expect results. Regardless of signings imo.
We are still 5 quality players short of a very good squad.

There isn’t a chance that EM won’t back OG in the market because he has never not backed us with significant funds.

As you say though, it comes down to who we bring in and when. You could read either way into the Diomande signing and other than the fluff about Reijnders it has gone very quiet. Hopefully it’s the calm before the storm with OG saying himself last week that he needed to assess the squad.

It's proving to be difficult for us to close deals. We haven't got European football and we had a really close call on relegation last season.
I'm sure Glasner is enjoying the time with our current squad. He will be assessing them and there may be some surprising departures.
But to get European football and challenge the top 6 this season isn't viable right now.
I think we can achieve 12th with the current squad.
EM will back Glasner, he has to otherwise we'll soon know if Glasner isn't happy.
We will need to be patient and our business won't be completed until the window slams shut.

The time to worry is definitely when Glasner starts making comments. As for closing deals, it sounds more like we refuse to pay more than we value the player at which is fine until the selling club refuses to budge and/or another club decides to make an approach.

If we get the players in that we want/need it could be a very good season and I am looking forward to it as things stand.

I still think that if this Reijnders stuff is correct we should be looking at a loan with an option.

I just hope that Glasner is OK with all this procrastination over the proposed incomings, don't want to be faced with another Nuno situation so early in his tenure & we know from his latter days at Palace he's not afraid to speak his mind

This is my sticking point. If we are interested in him, he is 28 so for a club of our size £55m is a lot of money given that we are highly unlikely to make our money back from him.

£35m and reasonable wages and I would be largely ok with it but that sort of fee is for someone younger in my opinion.
He was 28 only a week ago, so for me he's in his prime.
We have a top coach and ambition unbounded. When do we start acting like the club we want to be, rather than the club we are trying to move on from?

Not all transfers have to make money. I would prefer we paid £55m for Reindeers, than £55m for Bergvall.
Sometimes you get lucky mining for gold, sometimes you have to buy the gold as you see its value.

I'd be proper excited with this signing.
