2020/21 Spurs Player Ratings

As a taster here are the results for the ratings averages from posters for the second half of the season in order of merit. So excluding media. Remember as previously found, attaining a 7 would be exceptional.

1. Dele 6.66....17 games
2.Tanganga 6.52...8 games
3. Rodon 6.47....9 games
4. Kane 6.27.....28 games
4 Toby 6.27.....22 games
5. Bale 6.19....22 games
6. Sanchez 6.18....19 games
6.Hojberg 6.18......30 games
7. Reggie 6.12.....19 games
8. Ndombele 6.06....25 games
9. Lloris 6.02.....31 games
10. Lamela 5.95....24 games
11. Dier 5.94....23 games
12. LoCelso 5.90....9 games
13. Moura 5.83.....27 games
14. Winks 5.80.....18 games
15. Davies 5.79.....18 games
16. Aurier 5.74.....14 games
17. Bergwijn 5.56.....17 games
18. Vinicius 5.54.....12 games
19. Doherty 5.18....14 games
20. Sissoko 4.99.....22 games.

There are a few things to consider. The number of games played will be a big factor on the average. So the positions are not necessarily a true reflection yet !! I will add the first half of the season soon and decide the cut off point. I'm not sure what it could or should be yet. Maybe if a player falls below say 50% of the average number played, he should not be included.? Or suggestions are welcome.
On this provisional indicator table I would suggest Kane at number 4 is the true number 1 because those above him have only played 28 games between 3 of them and he's played that many on his own !!

Dele and Sanchez are the surprises for me but others may see it differently. Both may have the perception of having a bad season. Dele may get excluded from the list yet but its still a creditable rating of 6.66 over 17 appearances !!

Hopefully this will fuel some discussion and opinions over this quiet period.

Bet the tax man loves you with your sheets of paper.

I think the dog might have eaten Son's sheet.

Good old Sissoko :-)

I suspect for a true 'whole season' rating you have to set a minimum number of appearances and perhaps have a second 'set' for those who didn't meet the minimum criteria?

But so far, great work.

I am going to have 2 lists with a cut off point for inclusion in the main list. I am not sure what that cut off should be yet. 50 % might be the obvious point, or is it ?

Final forum average player ratings for the whole season. The cut off point was 24 games with Lo Celso scraping in at that and Dele Alli only just at 25.

1. Dele Alli 6.56
2. Kane 6.52
3. Bale 6.42
4. Toby 6.35
5. Hojbjerg 6.19
6. Ndombele 6.18
7. Lloris 6.13
8. Moura 6.02
9. Sanchez 6.02
10. Lo Celso 5.95
11. Son 5.94
12. Winks 5.88
13. Lamela 5.85
14. Davies 5.83
15. Dier 5.82
16. Aurier 5.73
17. Bergwijn 5.68
18. Sissoko 5.33

Dele at number one is not really a true indicator as he played in half the amount of games as Kane. It may also lift him misleadingly above Hojbjerg .
Having said this Dele managed a high average rating across 25 appearances which presents a potentially different perspective to the one suggested. The media gives a different opinion as you will see. Remember this table is compiled from forum posters ratings. !!

Final Media/ Web average ratings for the whole season. Same cut off point of 24 games.

1. Kane 6.98
2. Toby 6.45
3. Hojbjerg 6.45
4. Son 6.43
5. Lloris 6.33
6. Lo Celso 6.31
7. Ndombele 6.27
8. Aurier 6.14
9. Dele Alli 6.11
10. Moura 6.07
11. Lamela 6.03
12. Bale 6.03
13. Dier 6.02
14. Bergwijn 5.91
15. Davies 5.90
16. Sissoko 5.82
17. Sanchez 5.72
18. Winks 5.52

Worth considering which of the two tables is more of a fair representation.

Bale's a tough one. At the beginning, he was useless and then later he had a massive impact. If he'd had the same impact earlier the season outcome would have been different.

Final Forum and Media combined ratings

1. Kane 6.63
2. Hojbjerg 6 .41
3. Toby 6.35
4. Lloris 6.22
5. Ndombele 6.20
6. Son 6.19
7. Dele 6.18
8 Lo Celso 6.16
9. Dier 6.10
10. Lamela 6.08
11. Aurier 5.86
12. Davies 5.84

14. Moura 5.78
15. Bergwijn 5.76
16. Sanchez 5.70
17. Sissoko 5.64
18. Winks 5.64

This is the combination of Forum and Media for the whole season. So that's us, websites, newspapers and Sky TV. So possibly the most balanced of the 3 tables ?

Winks and Sissoko definitely in the right place...although the ratings are a bit high.

Well done Nick, good job. How Lo Celso with barely a goal or assist all season can finish 6th and 8th in the respective tables, with Bale 12th and 13th is beyond me. There was me thinking that match winning ability was important.

To be honest Loco pushed the boundaries of inclusion having only participated in 24 games. I was going to set the minimum at 25. But when I saw Gio was at 24, I stretched it to include him. Therefore his ratings are on the edge of credibility !!

Well done Nick for running this all season.

A few obvious things:
1) Shows what a mess RB was. Now way Walker or Corluka would ever have been that far down our table.
2) Shows how wrong Jose got it with Dele. A full season of him in full flow and we could have achieved more.
3) Son in 11th just shows how much deeper the VS fans watch him compared to the media who just see the goals and assists.

If a player can average above 6 in the forum and media combined ratings. It might be worth asking if we should hang on to them.? Under 6 whether we should sell. ?
Keeping in mind a 7 would be exceptional across say 40 to 50 games.
As I have said before, it becomes a very fine and marginal mathematical indicator between 5 and 7. Which is why those % points are so important although seemingly insignificant.
5 is not good enough , 7 is the holy grail.

I think the media one is pretty much bang on except I'd swap Bale and Alli.
