In these exceptional times there are going to be many changes to be accommodated ahead of the new season so this thread is intended to be short term for updates and news over the next couple of weeks.....

Liverpool successfully petition to have their points advantage from last season to be carried over to the 2020/21 campaign giving them a +18 point headstart when the new season commences.

A spokesperson for the Premier League explained this decision stating -

"We felt that this has been such an unprecedented situation that it was appropriate to be open to new ideas. Liverpool,™failed suggested that given the pressure of the congested fixture list because of the pandemic, this might allow the title to be decided earlier than usual and so permit the cancelling of later matches.

"We thought that such innovative thinking ought to be adopted as part of our desire to maintain the balance of the league. After all it took them 30 years to win the competition we didn't want it to be that long again - they deserve support in catching up with other teams"

JoMU also were granted a guaranteed 20 penalties because they got most penalties last season and the FA have agreed that any appeal for a penalty will be granted up to twenty appeals, this does not include any penalties awarded by the referee where JoMU do not appeal or in any game where they are leading by two goals.
The FA have been quick to deny any favouritism towards these two sides and that the awards have been earned on merit

*FA have also confirmed that in the case of JoMU the area in which penalties can be awarded to this historic club has been extended to incorporate the space from the edge of the opposition 18 yard box to the goal line as well as the little bit that pokes out directly in front of the goal posts.

"We felt that this area was especially important to facilitate the provision of the innovative Manchester United Coronavirus Penalty Bonus Award Scheme. We considered enhancing the scheme to award two penalties to them should a foul be committed against one of their World Class players in the corner flag quadrants but in the end discounted this idea to avoid any claims of bias"

The Media have all agreed not to show any replays of penalties awarded or any decision to have the penalties retaken due to perceived irregularities should the JoMU taker not score leading to the retake.

They also reserve the option of broadcasting previously taken successful penalties and substituting this footage for any missed in the current game. They offered the rationale that it was .....

"in the interest of time keeping and avoiding additional frustrating delays in achieving the agreed pre-determined outcome. We feel that this is especially important given the existing time added because of VAR and we don't wish to exacerbate this situation. If the concept of 'Alternative Facts' is good enough for the President of the United States we believe that the concept of 'Alternative Penalty Outcomes' is suitable for a forward thinking league such as the EPL"

Personally I'd have had the no replays rule come in after the 5/6th round as many lower league clubs will find replay revenue useful to their survival.

I wonder if this will see lower league clubs give up home advantage if drawn against Premier League sides?
Alternatively, if drawn away, change the share of gate receipts ratio to, say, 25%-75% in favour of the lower ranked club?

There has to be some

There has to be some radical rethinking about how to sustain the league given the extraordinary circumstances

Can't we just play Villa at home on the opening day? Do we need the extra time off?

Tough start this.
