2016 Olympics

I may well come across really thick now but is anyone else struggling with the tactics of tbe omnium race for cycling?

Just you Col, the rest of us are all totally down with the rules and the tactics

:91:

Current omnium[edit]Effective June 20, 2014,[3] the omnium as defined by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) consists of the following six events held over 2 days:

1.Scratch race
2.Individual pursuit
4,000 metres for elite men, 3,000 metres for junior men and elite women, and 2,000 metres for junior women
3.Elimination race
4.Time trial
1 km men, 500 metres women[4]
5.Flying lap (against the clock)
6.Points race
40 km for elite men, 25 km for elite women, 25 km for junior men, 20 km for junior women
For the first five events, each winner is awarded 40 points, each second place 38 points, each third place 36, etc. Riders ranked 21st and below will each be awarded 1 point. In the Points Race, riders add to and lose points from their totals based on laps gained and lost, and points won in sprints.

The winner of the Omnium is the rider who has obtained the highest total of points.

In the event of a tie in the final ranking, the places in the final sprint of the last event, the Points Race breaks the tie.

A rider must have completed every event in the omnium.

What is there not to understand?

Ok maybe i got the name wrong.

The race where they lead for a few seconds and then voluntarily move to the back of the pack.

Why????

Not very impressed with tae-kwon-do. Just two people who are kicking each other but not very convincingly.

You beauties. I can't believe I have just watched the hockey final in the Olympics. I haven't played since school and not been over interested until tonight. I decided to watch cos we were in the final. What an ending with the penalty shoot out. Amazing! 24 golds now! Wow just wow

That was cracking. What drama and commitment . Well done ladies. We (GB) are rather good at this Olympic lark.

Meanwhile, whilst Ireland's medal haul is more than disappointing - though credit to those who got a gong and commiserations to those who fell foul of the "interesting" boxing judging - the country is still making news in Rio, though for the wrong reasons.
The Chairman of the Irish Olympic Council has managed to get himself arrested and might end up "enjoying" Brazilian hospitality for longer than he was anticipating.

Pat Hickey has stood down from his position as President of the Olympic Council of Ireland following his arrest in Rio, on a dark day for Irish sport.
Mr Hickey was arrested at his luxury hotel after a dawn raid by police investigating allegations of Olympic ticket touting. Police said Mr Hickey's wife claimed her husband had returned to Ireland.
Officers then began a search of the hotel and discovered that Mr Hickey was in fact in his son's room.
Mr Hickey was transferred to hospital but a judge ordered the 71-year-old must remain in jail once he is discharged and faces a maximum prison sentence of up to seven years if charged and found guilty. Last night the OCI released a statement saying Mr Hickey would remain in the hospital for a period of 24 hours.

The Fear - 20/8/2016 11:11

Great hockey final.

Tae Kwon Do final was a nightmare, lost in the last second

That poor lad. He was so distraught in his interview, have to say i had a lump in my throat watching him. Four years hard slog and he loses gold in literally half a second

World away from the pampered England football team who seem to walk off the pitch without a flicker of care after another abject failure.

Yeah, he'd done so well throughout as well.

1 second.

Jeez! You'd not get that out your head for a very long time would you?!

Second in the overall medal table the first host of the previous Olympiad to increase their overall medal haul in the next Olympics and we won golds in 16 different sports which was more than any other Country. Great Britain indeed!

Stunning results, lets hope people keep playing the National Lottery and they in turn keep funding the sports programmes.
Fuck the National Ballet.

Fabulous Olympics for the GB team. Amazing what proper organisation and coaching can do (and amazing it how long it took GB to realise!)

Fabulous, really enjoyed it. :1:

Yes just fantastic. World class coaching , amazing facilities , just need some of that to filter down to inner city areas now.

Brilliant how nice it is to be proud of our home nations together we really are a force to be reckoned with
when you consider the size of Great Britain and population it is a tremendous achievement. 67 medals just wow.

The European Union have declared they won the most medals at the Olympics. Firstly I never knew the EU were a country secondly sod off gits.

Came across some appalling images earlier on the legacy of the Rio Olympics....

Basically, they spent millions and millions to improve/build facilities and host the games, but as predicted, they can no longer afford to sustain them.

The Maracana stadium is barely used now - seats have been ripped out, TVs stolen, the pitch is more like a golf course. The aquatic centre is disused and the practice pool is full of rusty water (pardon the expression).

Anyway, take look if you're interested. It really is a scandal with the amount of money basically wasted. The local economy has enjoyed precisely no long-term benefits as the Olympic circus rolls on. It's much the same with the World Cup in developing nations (eg South Africa).
