Today, for the 3rd time, I've been trying to watch it. I always read commentaries like classic, stunning and brilliant about this film, so really want to watch it. There's a problem though, it's so bloody boring. It's more dull than a night counting Fear's money in the knowledge that it's his and you're getting none.

So am I missing something, is it truly the brilliant cinema that THEY say it is, or is it typical, overhyped bollocks, given credence by its use of popular classical music accompanying some kind of "space ballet" made with a bunch of Airfix kits?

'Movie people' are the problem, you see it constantly with some other critically acclaimed films.

My mate keeps telling me to watch it he is a 'movie buff'. I'll give it a chance one day and it'll be funny to see his reaction if I dont like it.

I dont read movie reviews because they are usually from arrogant people with a sense of 'I am better than you'. Movie reviews for Drive are cringe worthy and movie reviews for an action film are always retarded. Die Hard for example like what do you expect from it? Its hardly going to have an amazing script and heavy plot line.

VOTN dude,,,SNAP i have tried and tried but from nodding off too just switching it off but yet i keep hearing ''''it's amazing movie of a lifetime'' pffffff

Style over substance, but it is one of the most influential movies ever made. Films are subjective, but this particular movie was extremely ground breaking, consider for a start, the year it was released (1968) not many films like that were being made then.

It's a brave opening to a film, monkeys taking what seems like the age of time itself to discover what a tool is. It is a masterpiece no doubt, but not necessarily an entertaining film. The Godfather is arguably the best film ever made, but it's not as re-watchable as say Die Hard (CDX have a look at Empires review of Die Hard mate - http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review.asp?FID=134894 no snobbery here I promise you, the exact opposite actually).

Schindler's List is one of the most moving films you'll ever see, but you wouldn't sit down and eat your dinner watching it (unless you're a little odd).

You have to take films on their merits, when their made, different era's, this film was being made while England were World Cup holders, that's how long ago it is. No, it's not everyone's cup of tea, I don't really like classic westerners but they are adored by some, you can respect a film without liking it, a bit like Alex Ferguson really.

I confess, it's beautifully made, difficult to believe it was made so long ago, and it's very artistic in the cinematography but I just can't bring myself to sit through it all, it's just so bloody boring.
