20/21 Your "Realistic" Starting Lineup/Formation

I don't think we have a bomb squad these days do we. We don't have enough players for that.

Anyway I'd go with

Steer

Cash Engels Hause Under 23 lb

J Ramsey Nakamba Hourihane

El Ghazi Samatta Trezeguet

Fill the bench with youngsters so Barry, Chukwuemeka, A Ramsey, Archer with a couple more experienced ones to make up the numbers.

Hopefully by the time of the Sheffield United game we'll have a new striker and a new winger.

Heaton/Steer
Guillbert/Konsa/Mings/Targett
Cash/Grealish/Luiz/McGinn/Trez
New Signing/Wes

Bench
Nakamba
Hourihane
Ramsey
Barry
Engels
Samatta
Nyland/Steer

We will concede less but will still struggle up front, 16th.

It's going to be 4-3-3 because that's just what we're going to play.

Based on current squad, signings and rumours it'll be:

-------------------Martinez---------------
Cash------Konsa-----------Mings----Targett
---------------------Luiz-------------------
-----------McGinn-------------------------
--------------------------Grealish----------
A.N.Other----------------------------King(?)
-------------------Watkins-----------------

We do need at least one WF signing coming off so we're not forced into having to play Jack out wide because we can't sensibly subject ourselve El Ghazi and Trezeguet at the same time on the same pitch.

Wouldn't mind that at all.

Could Davis play with Watkins ?
Davis to cause a bit of havoc and 'winger' Watkins to pop the chances in

Martinez?/Heaton?/Steer
Freddie, Konsa, Mings, Targett
New Defensive Midfielder
McGinn, Luiz [further forward]
Jack
Davis, Watkins

Wingless wonders but Watkins sometimes playing on the left
Width from Freddie & Targett

For £33 million I think the starting XI should be

Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins

Subs -
Mings
Grealish
Mcginn
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins
Watkins

.........................Martinez

Cash..... Smalling.... Mings.... Targett

.............. Mcginn...... Luiz

Benrahma......... Grealish........... Rashica

......................... Watkins

£135 million well spent!

I think that's a top half side, I really do.

I would like King to come in as mentioned elsewhere but my God would I love to see Buendia at VP with his compatriot Martinez.

I see zero point in buying Watkins if his "supply" is going to be coming from the likes of Ghazi and I'm yet to be convinced that McGinn is up to snuff at this level.

King + Buendia > Benrahma + Rashica all day long for me.

Limited to seniors likely to figure and factoring in the supposed arrivals of Martinez and Traore ahead of Sheff U - does anyone else really come into play?

Gk: Martinez/Steer

RB: Cash/Guilbert/Elmo
CB: Konsa/Engels
CB: Mings/Hause
LB: Taylor/Targett

DCM: Douglas/Nakamba
CAM: McGinn/Hourihane

RW: Traore/Trezeguet
LW: Grealish/El Ghazi
ST: Watkins/Samatta

------------------------------------Martinez-------------------------------
---------------------Konsa-----------------------Mings-------------------
Cash-----------------------------------------------------------------Targett
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------McGinn-------------------Luiz----------------------
----Traore-------------------------Grealish------------------Trezeguet----
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------Watkins--------------------------------

It's probably more offensive than the 4,3,3 we're currently playing, As both McGinn and Luiz can sit deep if needed or both push up, whilst Grealish mopping up the loose balls spraying either side or having a pop himself.

4,3,3 with Grealish in the middle you're looking at him perhaps sitting a little too deep to be as effective in creating chances.

Trezeguet has played most of his games on the left wing, loves cutting inside (he's right footed) so makes sense for him to on the left rather than the right, especially now we have Traore there and it will allow Grealish to move centre if we don't bring in another LW/AMC.

The season before he joined Villa he played a whole season LW.

I think that is the best line up we can put out at present with Davis coming on for Trez & Watkins moving wide late on

But I still think we are 1 signing short for the starting 11 and with little cover on the bench

I saw Cash start to make overlapping runs vs Sheff Utd several times and no-one saw him or wanted to make the play. I really hope this is included in our play going forward. Too may crosses from deep that the opposition defence can easily see and snuff out. Looking at our 11 it is definitely better than last season - let's see what they can do against 11 men.

Oh PS that is my starting 11 too. TBF I think the 11 pick themselves at the moment - which isn't a good sign. Hoping for more newbies this week.

Yes I thought Cash was a bit reluctant to call for the ball and was a be in awe of the players around him. At some point, he needs or will say to himself I'm better than some of these I'm going to take charge and make a difference.

I think you're right, It's just a matter of time and confidence, once he finds his own gear and realises he isn't out of place here and gets some assists to his name as well, I reckon he'll switch up a gear.

Probably to the point it seems we have an extra man up field allowing Traore to find space himself instead of being the provider, it's a nice option to have to be able to pace it to Cash who's close behind you, knowing he has a wicked delivery himself and you can get in the box creating that extra striker.

What's your thoughts on Targett.
