1st Game?

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
My first game:

https://www.11v11.com/matches/aston-villa-v-everton-27-august-1977-83962/

Andy Gray scored, Everton came back to beat us 2-1. Never forgave them.

That was the day I fell in love though, the sound of the feet stamping in the old wooden Trinity Upper, mesmorising.

Villa v Watford, April 21st 1984.

We won 2-1, Steve Foster and Sir Dennis scored. Abysmal crowd (16k!!) but it felt like the whole world was there to me (was 9 at the time).

And yes, the noise from the stamping in the Trinity was amazing, still get goosebumps when I think back now.

Villa v Italy U21 26th July 1969.

Pre-season friendly.

Stood in the Trinity Road Enclosure.

This was my first Villa game but not my first game.

Unfortunately my Dad is a lifetime dogheads fan and used to take me to what is now the custard bowl until I saw the light.

The day before my 7th Birthday, what a classic...

Villa 0-2 Chelsea, November '97

My first trip over from Ireland, awful display, Yorke missed a penalty at 0-0, Hughes and Flo scored for them.

Saw the Full Monty in a cinema that night somewhere in the city centre, had a great weekend despite the result.

Villa v Brighton 12/04/1982

Aged 7

Won 3 -0

Sat in Witton Lane and remember clear as day Tony Morley having a goal ruled out for offside and looking straight at me (seemed like it anyway ) and swearing his head off.

Looking at the game stats there was only 22,731 there. About 6 weeks before winning the European cup and that was the paltry attendance. Unbelievable.

I had been to a live game before this though. Got dragged to watch the Tesco bags by my dad. Funny enough this was also against Brighton down at the Goldstone ground.

19th of September 1992

Aston Villa 4 Liverpool 2

Goals from Saunders 2, Atkinson and Parker. Also included the infamous Ronny Rosenthal open goal miss. Not a bad start.

Wasn't that the last game in front of the old Holte End?

I feel sorry for all the fans that were not around to witness our 1981 and 1982 triumphs.

Never been back into the Holte End for a match since it went all seater, wouldn't be the same.

It wasnt my first game as my mom and dad used to take me down as a small kid , but the first memory at Villa was Ray Graydon scoring a penalty so would be 76 77 probably.

1st game I class as going properly as a fan rather than my parents dragging me along was Didier Six's Man U debut

Not sure if it was my very first match but it was certainly one of the first. It was around Christmas time, at Villa Park 1966 v Arsenal.

We lost 1-0, and I think Frank McLintock scored for them.

Not a good start, it was a case of 'we go again'.

I think that was a couple of years later. Dwight Yorke scored twice to keep us up if memory serves.

I think my dad was at this game. A few times he's told me about a friendly vs Italy when Tommy Docherty I think was in charge. He told Me that a team of tanned blokes in yellow shirts who he didn't recognise came out of the tunnel so he and his mates booed them presuming they were the Italians. Then it turned out they were in fact the villa fresh off a pre season trip somewhere sunny in our new away kit and with a few new players.

Aston Villa 3 Bolton Wanderers 0
2nd November 1963
Scorers - Burrows (2) Ewing
Attendance - 18, 833

This was my first ever visit to Birmingham which is where my parents were living. I was in Belfast with my grandmother.

Two weeks later, Villa went one better when hammering Manchester United 4-0. I was back in Belfast, alas, and heard the result on "Sports Report".

Full of admiration for those that can remember their first game at Villa Park. I cant, the first game I remember was the second leg of the 1961 League Cup final. I was nearly 10, and had been to games previously but sadly lost in the midst of time.
Needed to pull back a 2-0 defecit, we did, 3-0 on the night.
Not bad to see a trophy in your first season, even if the big boys back then sneered at it, rather like they do now I suppose. Hooked!
