County championship fixtures resume (briefly)

Hants v Yorks at the Rose Bowl (1100 start) tomorrow
Squad news 11/06/22 - Drakes and Brook should be be available to play, but not Willey , Malan and Rashid though because of England call-ups. Root and Bairstow are already in playing in the Test match, so are also unavailable. Thompson has recoverd from injury, but Kohler-Cadmore is being rested. Waite returns to the squad.
It will be interesting to see how Drakes performs in his first 4-day game for Yorkshire.

Hants v Yorks (CC)
Weather forecast is good. Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat first.
Thompson, Duke, Waite and Patterson all return to the starting XI.

Lunch : Yorkshire 68-1(Lyth 19). Hill 42 n.o. , Fraine 7 n.o. Slowish steady start. Holland has taken the only wicket to fall so far.

Tea :Yorks 168-2 (Fraine 20) Hill 84 n.o., Brook 51 n.o.
After Fraine was run out, Hill and Brook added an unbroken century partnerhsip in the afternoon. A good session for Yorkshire.

Close : Yorks 324-5 (Brook 76, Hill 131) Waite still there on 38 n.o., with Bess (2 n.o.).
A good effort from Yorkshire, with Brook stepping up the scoring rate after a slowish start to the game. Best Hants bowler was Holland with 2-46. The wicket is playing very true though, and it might be difficult to bowl Hants out twice on it.

Day Two

Weather should be ok for a full day's play again . Injury update - Commentator said that Fisher is out for the rest of 2022 season due to a stress fracture. Coad has been doing some bowling in club cricket , but is still not fully fit for county cricket yet.

Lunch : Yorks 428 all out. (Waite 41, Bess 51 n.o. ). We probably should have got a few more runs really, but Bess ran out of batting partners. Drakes was unlucky to be given out caught behind, as he didn't appear to make contact with the ball. Best Hants bowler was Wheal, with 4-59. Still looks like a good batting pitch.

Tea: Hants 110-3 (Vince 33) . Gubbins 58 n.o., Dawson 6 n.o. Two wickets for Thompson , one for Waite.

Close : Hants 225-4. ( Gubbins 58). Dawson 61 n.o, Brown 52 n.o. Just one wicket taken (by Patterson) in the evening session. Yorkshire need a breakthrough tomorrow morning.

Day Three (continued...)

Lunch ; Hants 309-6 (Dawson 61, Brown 83)

Update : Hants 410 all out. Usual Yorkshire problem of removing the opposition tail-enders. Disappointing that ours had didn't do better yesterday with the bat- we might have had a decent first innings lead. Best Yorkshire bowler was Thompson (again) with 4-68.

Close : Yorkshire 101-5. Duke 17 n.o., Bess 3 n.o. at the end of the day's play.
Best Hants bowler was Barker , with 3-22 so far. Due to a second innings batting collapse, we have managed to throw away our advantage in the game.

Day Four (continued...)

Lunch : Yorkshire 2nd inns168-8. Revis 23 n.o., Drakes 21 n.o. Three wickets each now for Barker and Abbott. Fairly even session this morning, Hants must still be favourites to win.

Update - Yorkshire 2nd inns 178 all out. (Revis 23 n.o.) Didn't last long after lunch. Patterson is a "walking wicket" these days. Three wickets each for Barker, Abbott and Wheal. Probably not enough runs on the board to save the game.

12 overs in and it's like a replay of first innings. Thompson gets openers out early and then Gubbins and Vince steady the ship.

Day 4 (continued...)

Tea : Hants 2nd inns 80-4 (Gubbins 42)

Close : Hants 2nd inns 198-8 (45.2 overs) - Dawson was top scorer in the innings with 67. Two wickets each for Thompson, Patterson and Bess. Quite difficult to lose after batting first and scoring over 400, but Yorkshire managed to do it!:(
Once again, let the tail-enders score too many runs .Disappointing result.
Hants won by two wickets.
